Foregoing plans to launch Pride Month with live events across their network of museums, the Smithsonian presents Project Pride, a 2 hour video [YT link] which host Ari Shapiro introduces as a time capsule of LGBTQ Pride in 2020. Participants include Alex the Astronaut, Big Freedia, Bright Light Bright Light, Cameron Esposito, Courtney Barnett, Claud, Dorian Electra, Girl in Red, Indigo Girls, Jake Shears, Joy Oladokun, Kat Cunning, Madame Gandhi, mxmtoon, Nakhane, Pabllo Vittar, Pet Shop Boys, Roxane Gay, SOKO, Tig Notaro & Stephanie Allynne, VINCINT, and other guests. And the Smithsonian throws in their own historical context too.
Please note: The content of tonight’s program was pre-recorded and does not address current and ongoing events. After much consideration and conversation, our team has decided to continue with the launch of this program, in hopes that it provides our communities with solace and comfort in a time of darkness. Please read a message from Smithsonian Secretary Lonnie Bunch regarding this week's events.

Whatever you think this will be, it will not be that. You might agree that it ends up being better. I really liked it.

It's also very family friendly, if you're wanting to have a family Pride night and watch some gay music performances with some Smithsonian content mixed in.

I was lucky enough to see Alex The Astronaut at Primavera a few years ago; she's an excellent songwriter. It's a pity that her music is not on Bandcamp.

I just watched this. The music by wonderful young people was worth it.

The focus on younger performers was eye opening to me. I really enjoyed this. The history segments were fun and surprising and educational, too. The whole thing was nicely curated, IMO.
