1985 was a ridiculously strong year for music releases. We missed May 20, 1985, when U2 released their EP Wide Awake In America. Featuring possibly the best recording of Bad ever, it was an enormous success, going Platinum in the US. I saw the Unforgettable Fire tour at the Tower Theater in Philly, probably one of the last times U2 played a place so small. It was an amazing show, but Bad was just *astonishing*. It hadn't been anything extraordinary on the album, good but not one of the standouts, but live it was like Bono was ripping it out of himself.

"Bad (Live)" is my favorite U2 song, by far. No "possibly" about it. It is ridiculously strong.

A Sort of Homecoming is just as good. The energy on the live version is amazing.

I burned through my cassette. U2 had some really good b-sides back in the 1980s, or perhaps I was just so obsessed with U2 that I would consume anything they released.

It was Bad that made U2 at Live Aid. Bad was amazing. I don't think it was ever a single or if they ever had a video for it, but somehow it was one of the most well-known songs off Unforgettable Fire.

It's also a classic Edge riff of like two notes that sound like an orchestra when you put them through a delay. I'm not the U2 fan I used to be, and Bono has become mostly insufferable, but The Edge will always be one of my all-time favorite guitarists.

Yeah, it would be fun to play with his gear.

I can't count the number of times I have listened to the songs from that EP. Transcendent. They should have stopped right there.
