Schitt’s Creek cast Feat. Mariah Carey: Dear Class of 2020

The Roses and other denizens of Schitt’s Creek have a message and a song for the teachers and students of the Class of 2020...with a visit from a special guest. (And if you have never watched the show, Vanity Fair would like to tell you, Yes, Schitt’s Creek really is that good.)

I got GOOSEBUMPS hearing and seeing this.
Love the show, miss the Roses, and everyone else in that crazy little town.
I was a latecomer to the series, and it quickly became a Top Ten of All-Time Favorite.

Also, how does Eugene Levy keep his brows so dark?

I love that Mariah Carey has a fan blowing her hair for Zoom calls.

I really liked the first 2-3 seasons of this show, but it sort of jumped the shark after that. It was an obscure sleeper that got big, then they kept extending it and were squeezing blood from a stone after a while. I don't blame them for doing it, but the overall quality just went down... the jokes were just played out after a while.

I loved that the episodes are so short! The original airings on POP TV were extremely packed with commercials and unwatchable. But on Netflix minus ads? Perfect. Seriously: a simple premise, jokes, jokes jokes, then OUT and done. The show is like a fun comic strip in a way. Bite-sized perfection when it was at its best.

Yeah it's a common sitcom disease where after awhile the script devolves into "Person 1: exposition
Person 2: Person 2 style quip
Person 1: frowns
Person 3: person 3 style quip"
Quip styles:
Uses long words
Likes spreadsheets
Straightman
Is fussy
Has catchphrases
Celebrity name drop

This was cute though and it was nice of them to do. It's nice when the celebrities identify something they can actually do that people actually might benefit from, and then get it done.

I'm through the first season, starting the second, and Chris Elliott sucks the air out of every scene he is in, it's so painful.

Catherine O’Hara's character deserves more time - her character is the real stand out.

I am not ashamed to admit that I legit cried at this. Cried because I was so happy to see my latest, most favorite cast of characters again, cried because Mariah Carey singing HERO could make a turnip cry and I cried because all the cast was crying. It was ... a moment.

And SoberHighland - I must vehemently disagree -- I think the show got progressively better with each season and each character grew until the show had to end because the premise of "Overpriviledged jerks begrudgingly live in podunk town" could no longer be sustained.

Agreed about Chris Elliott. I was a HUGE fan of his back in the early 1980s Letterman days, but his character on Schitt's Creek was not well done at all.

If you wanna see some prime Chris Elliott material, google his old TV specials from Cinemax back in the 1980s. "Action Family" is a send up/mashup of cheap 1970s cop shows and Brady Bunch type sitcoms and is weird as hell. "FDR: A One Man Show" is some of the strangest TV ever produced. Introduced by Marv Albert, it's a fake Broadway "one man show" where Chris Elliott stars as an exceedingly bizarre and decidedly ahistorical FDR. It's a send-up of celebrity and "one man shows" and TV and fandom. It is just deeply, deeply weird and I find it hilarious. These two specials were on Youtube a while ago, ripped from someone's old VHS recording. Not sure if they're still there, but I recommend both of them highly.

FYI, this eases up incrementally further down the road.

Although I am the core demographic for this performance (I belong to the class of 2020, am a diehard Schitt's Creek fan, and love Mariah), this is what we all needed. And I think that's what was so powerful about Schitt's Creek. Every time I individually was emotional about the show I felt like I was feeling those emotions with a whole community. I'm reminded once again of how hopeful I felt after each Schitt's Creek episode.

Bonus Catherine O'Hara: She won a Canadian Screen Academy Award for her portrayal of Moira, and, due to the fact that we're all on lockdown, she gave her acceptance speech remotely as only Catherine O'Hara can.

My partner and I just started watching the show yesterday. We are about four episodes in and barely hanging on because of him.

If I'm not caught up with the final season, should I give this a pass? Are there spoilers?

Pope, I detected no spoilers in this video.
