Today we'd call these mash-ups, only then recorded with a full orchestra

The 1982 screen adaptation of Agatha Christie's Evil Under The Sun not only featured Peter Ustinov and Maggie Smith and a lot of other greats, but also had a really striking score. Music by Cole Porter, rearranged and "turned into medleys" by John Lanchberry [whom you've never heard of, but who is quite pedigreed], the score didn't see a release until 1999. I think it's charming and fun, and it's a new way to get your Cole Porter on, if that's your thing. Evil Under The Sun Original Film Soundtrack (link lists breakdown of Cole Porter tunes used in each track). CD Track List: Main Titles, Restaurant Interior, Daphne's Island, Poirot On Boat, The Cocktail Party, Arlena & Patrick, Swimming, Hotel Balcony, Myra & Christine, Gardener's Suite, Breakfast On The Terrace, Christine In Hotel Corridor, The Dance Sequence, Daphne's Office, Check Out, The Grotto, Hotel Exterior

Clever listeners might hear that "I Concentrate On You" and "I've Got My Eyes On You" are used frequently, as themes for Poirot.

Sorry about no playlist. All the tracks are quite short. The CD is currently selling on Amazon for $900 or something, so enjoy this digital liberation.

The most mash-up-y of the tracks is The Dance Sequence which actually feels modern only it's being performed by a jazz orchestra. Can I get more of those doing high-energy dance stuff a-la DJ material complete with hangs and drops? I'd dance the FUCK TON MORE out to a live orchestra than I would a DJ, but they'd have to Get Me There.

Diana Rigg entirely Diana Rigg's in this, full of fashion, and Maggie Smith is cast in the same type of as in Downtown Abbey. Destinies are played out even early in life.

It's a fun movie, not great, but I love this score.

"mash-up" remains a Very 2005 Word for "medley"

Derail - nothing about music.
Part of the location shots were done in Mallorca in early spring 1981 and I was the mate on the classic 1929 motor yacht "The Jolly Roger"
(Then called Kovalam and still sailing today); and which was chartered in for three weeks for some of the scenes.
There are some rather nice stock illustrations by Hugh Casson.
Peter Ustinov told delightful stories, Jane Bikin sunbathed on the foredeck, and Colin Blakely and Maggie Smith were charming and we gave them a dinner onboard one evening after filming.
To my lasting disappointment Diana Rigg did not have a scene onboard.

Just watched the film; it's very entertaining. The score is delightful. The costumes -- and the hors-d'oeuvres -- are so colorful. Thanks for the tip.

It's so cool that you were there, adamvasco!
