I am unabashedly into original nyan cat, and I enjoyed the heck out of this. I know a piano improviser who would get a kick out of this idea too -- one of his best party tricks is to play a song (often happy birthday) in a bunch of different genres like this.

I wonder how much of the genre-hopping is just switching instrumentation on a MIDI track and how much the artist actually recomposed to be in-the-style-of? I noticed the Oom-Pahs during Nyantoberfest, and the spooky synths near the end of the video, so there's at least some composing that went into this.

My 16 year old, deeply steeped in all internet and video gaming traditions, pointed out that the music from the Mario segment is based on a different game than the video from the Mario segment. If only we can figure out a way to harness his powers to pay the bills.

I loved this - and it reminded my, that as a Brit of a certain vintage, my first experience of side-scroll loop story telling - more than a decade before Defender even - was Trumpton Fire Brigade on a call out.

And I can't leave the Nyan cat theme without this clip of Tom Brier sight reading it - (yes this clip is 9 minutes long!)

I was recently reminded by a spate of memes while browsing that the upside down OK sign was a Weird Teen Prank thing for a while. Remember? Tricking someone into looking at you making the sign was winning somehow or other, and it was the standard ending to joke .gifs in the same way Rickroll was once and Dickbutt seems to be now.

Originally it was like punch-buggy, if you got someone to look at it you could punch them in the arm, but obviously that doesn't translate into internet so it's just an abstract "you lost."
