Insect art: Eye makeup " I distinctly remember getting some strange looks when I wore my somewhat dramatic Bolivian dwarf beauty tarantula (Cyriocosmus perezmilesi) look to pop out for a pint of milk, but generally people are really nice."

I was not expecting a "dramatic insect eye makeup" to be, uh, pretty normal makeup! In case anyone is hesitating on the link, this is inspired-by, not lifelike-recreation-of-spider-on-my-eye or similar.

Back in high school, I used to wear black and yellow bumblebee-striped eyeshadow. But it wasn’t nearly as nice as this.

It's funny, some of the ones with spots, my brain is like "Wow, that one is neat!" and others of the ones with spots, my brain is like "No! No! Do not want! What flesh-eating virus has wrought this havoc?"

Thank you, I love this! It's not the most "out there" one, but I'm in awe of the hues and blending on the "Indian black carpenter bee" one. Gorgeous.

My favourite so far is stink bug that bright orange eye liner is so perfectly evocative of the insect itself.

Quibbles: technically, butterflies and moths are arthropods, and (more importantly) there appears to be a nudibranch in the image. But this is some pretty dang nice make-up!

If the quibble is about the use of the term 'insect', butterflies and moths actually are insects (they are also arthropods, as are all insects, since insects are part of the arthropod phylum.) Nudibranchs are neither arthropods nor insects, though, so you've definitely got a point there.

This is really beautiful. I'd love to be able to throw on more inventive eyeshadow looks than 'smoky'.

yea, these are great! and I wish I didn't have such hooded eyelids so I could do funky makeup that wouldn't disappear as soon as I opened my eyes all the way!

She named her orchid mantis (Hymenopus coronatus) Trixie. Adorbs!
