Good God's://Urge - Porno for Pyros reunite at Lollapalooza 2020

In late spring of 1996, Porno for Pyros released their second album, Good God's Urge. Unlike the seedy LA vibe of the first album, Urge referenced the South Pacific in mood (not so much the style), and featured traditional Balinese dancing in the "Tahitian Moon" video. This would be the band's last studio release. Members of Love & Rockets and Red Hot Chili Peppers guest on the album, and "Freeway" features a reunion with Jane's Addiction guitarist Dave Navarro.

Tracks:
Porpoise Head, 100 Ways, Tahitian Moon (video), Kimberly Austin, Thick of it All, Good God's://Urge!, Wishing Well, Dogs Rule the Night, Freeway, Bali Eyes

On the 2020 Lollapalooza livestream (July 30 at 5:50p Pacific), Farrell, Perkins, DiStefano, and The Minutemen's Mike Watt (who finished the bass parts on the album after Martyn LeNoble departed the band) reunite. I invite the more adventurous to take a listen to Banyan, Perkins/Watt's collaboration with Nels Cline and Money Mark.

I caught the Sterling Spoon Anniversary Tour (where they played all of Ritual de lo Habitual) on some streaming channel. They're still awesome. And is that the first song with an URL in its title?

My favorite thing they did was a B side: this cover of "Tonight" from West Side Story.

I'll go with Hard Charger as my fave. That's almost certainly because it is essentially Jane's Addiction with a worse bass player. (I kid, I kid! But, I would have loved to see what Eric Avery could have added to the mix.)

Not sure about whether Good God's://urge! was the first with a URI/URL as the song title (and I would argue it's neither, but I think I see where you are coming from), but I do remember an article in Spin or Rolling Stone about Perry Farrell's first website which came out right as AOL first pushed a browser. (Not the first browser, by any stretch, but the first that most of midwest usa suburbia would have had contact with.) teeth.net. IIRC, he named it teeth since "everyone has teeth, so we can all commune over that."

Thank you, SoundInhabitant, for the link.

Tahitian Moon is great but my favorite track off that album is Thick Of It All. It's on the soundtrack for the imaginary thriller I've been constructing whenever I let my mind wander.

I was indifferent to the first one, but I have a real soft spot for this album. It's just fucking weird.

The Ritual de lo Habitual tour with the Pixies and Primus is an all-time top-5 live music event of my life, so I give Perry a lot of leeway, and while I never got into PfP this one sounds interesting so far!
