GOOD IDEA: Allowing Americans to travel to your country before COVID-19 is a thing.

What if the world was split in two
Cut between the reds and the white and blue
And all Americans were thus denied
All rights to travel to the other side

I am reminded of a line from Archer (in the context of countries that don't use the Metric system: Albania and Liberia IIRC): "Huh. You don't usually think of those countries as having their shit together."

What this reminds me most of is the Flanders and Swann song: Commonwealth Fair. (And that doesn't include Montreal/ and that doesn't include Montreal.)

"Now the time has come to leave you
One more time
Let me kiss you
Then close your eyes
And I'll be on my way
Dream about the days to come
When I won't have to leave alone
About the times, I won't have to say

Kiss me and smile for me...:

See also this brilliant use of the song by a 16 year-old from West Cork to illustrate which countries the UK has and has not invaded.

I genuinely don't know how to feel about this one. On one hand, the US government is significantly more stupid and dangerous than usual, the world has noticed, and it's good to point that out. It's funny and well made. Travel restrictions have significantly changed my life and short term career plans. On the other hand, part of me can't help wonder what people with Indian or Guatemalan passports are thinking when they see this. Expecting to enter most countries without a visa isn't a universal experience.

Megami - I have real issues with the video. Indigenous peoples aren't really considered in it - instead of saying there was an invasion, it is considered "colonization". And cases where the UK invaded in order to transition the colonization back to another European country are also somehow not counted?

There is a previous thread still open on a related topic (more or less the same topic really, just without singing).

Yeah, but there will be an Animaniacs reboot on Hulu, premiering on Nov. 20, including Pinky and the Brain, and will include all of the episodes from the original run of Animaniacs and Tiny Toon Adventures, and is totally off topic there.

Narf!

Can't speak for the other countries, and this is only from two conversations with two different people (one fairly in-depth conversation I had with an Albanian friend earlier this year when we were discussing politics and another friend-of-friend who was telling us some Albanian history after the fall of the USSR), but remember all that war and ethnic cleansing/genocide in the Balkans in the 90s? For at least some Albanians (I only discussed this with the one friend, so grain of salt) they are so very very grateful that the US came in to help. Some Albanians still see America as their friend that had their back when they really needed it, though like everything else Trump touches, that is slowly dying too.

I checked a few of them, and at least for them, it seems that they have just decided to stop the COVID-19 related travel restrictions, so it's back to business as usual for them. So they aren't restricting Americans, but they haven't carved out an exception for them either.
