Hit The Ground Running

It's funny because it's true, and the truth hurts, and it's basically slapstick, where someone getting hurt is funny, even though it's myself getting hurt.

(The thing I've been working on for two and a half years might be done in a month, which of course will mean a lot more work, and a whole new class of problems, but at least I'm through the worst part of what he describes, because finally yeah, the end, at least to this phase, is in sight)

Related serendipity? DISCONNECTED with Jaiden Animations, Ellen Rose and Hank Green.

I'm not sure that this isn't something that you would have to know and watch Hank Green regularly to actually parse. But just today I saw his face and learned that he's American and from Florida, so there's that. Not sure I get it...

I do not know what it feels like to do the thing even though you're not sure if it's a good idea any more or even ever was, and maybe you should have stopped a long time ago. I always stop.

I don't know if it's a useful impulse

I was very glad to see his face go from florid back to a more normal shade at the end. Good histrionics, I suppose, if a bit alarming.

I'll admit to being an unabashed member of Nerd Fighteria. I love so many of the Greens' output - Anthropocene Reviewed is on of those podcasts that's an instant listen when the new episode drops, I watch about 80% of the vlogbrothers weekly vids, I loved the 100 Days healthy midlife crisis series, I love the work they do to improve maternal health in Sierra Leone, and I love that the DFTBA brand has enabled so many creators to make a living off of making art for merch. I do think that in the long run, the work with Partners in Health and Crash Course will be their legacy, and that's not nothing.

Also this video in particular is very appropriate for someone like me who is staring down the last year of earning their first college degrees (two! BA and MS! what was I thinking???) as a middle aged adult who is still holding down a full-time job and immune compromised and with chronic mental / physical health conditions in the middle of a goddamn pandemic. Just keep doing the fucking thing, goddamnit.

Actual, cannibal Shia LaBeouf?

I dunno what the Shia connection is about.

For anyone confused, what Hank is upset about is This Smashmouth concert. He’s been titling his videos after the lyrics in the Smashmouth song AllStar for a while, hence “hit the ground running”.

And then for some doofus reason this band that he’s been doing a sort of long form low key tribute to, decides to be doofuses about Covid and perform live for an unmasked crowd. So, I guess this video is partly explaining why he might keep on with the lyric titles for a while? And that he’s pissed about their behavior, and doesn’t want anyone to think he endorses said behavior.
