An interview in GQ with "tech oracle" Jaron Lanier on trying to "not fuck the future over", Black Lives Matter, social media and activism, universal basic income, the worst case scenario that "Facebook might have won already, which would mean the end of democracy in this century", and sources of optimism about the uses of technology in relation to the pandemic and protests.

Having read Lurking: How a Person Became a User by Joanne McNeil last week (which, incidentally, mentions MetaFilter and quotes Jessamyn), I took a look at her tweets and she had recently retweeted this thread by Heather Gold on why Jaron Lanier shouldn't be described as the "conscience of" or "last moral man in Silicon Valley".
