Zoom Earth (nothing to do with everyone's favorite teleconferencing tool) shows live weather satellite images updated in near real-time in a zoomable map. Image layers include storms and wildfires.

From Neave Interactive, where there are other good things. Found while looking for info on CA wildfires.
Some other tools, many talked about here before:

Very cool! The smoke plume from the Cameron Peak Fire here in Colorado is massive.

I was just chatting with my cousin in San Francisco this evening, and he was telling me how bad the air was in the city from the fires (and how bloody hot it is there right now). This site really helped me understand what he was talking about.

Could be handy for checking what the sky's like for astrophotography as well.

Anyone know how the fire spots thing works? Looking at Africa looks strange with that.

MattWPBS, Africa does have the most number of fires of any continent annually, although this is made up predominantly of a lot of very small fires (including agricultural burning), and the satellites are quite sensitive! More detail here.

A real-time (ish) view of our own planet from orbit as background information was plausible science fiction to me as a child. I now live in the future. Thank you.
