I voted early, and I kinda wish I hadn't. Normally I could look forward to casting my ballot as a final "take that!"

Mod note: Comment and reply removed, it's okay if you're feeling a lot of ambient anxiety but please find somewhere else to put it than grim well-actuallying in nice threads.

> I had a dream my life would be so different from this hell I'm living.

Obviously a reference, but I had a dream I was being stalked by a serial killer that ended with an unseen force trying to push open my bedroom door. Then I woke up and thought of my dog sleeping at the foot of the bed and went peacefully back to sleep. That's essentially what I voted for when I turned in my ballot last week.

technically I have enough PTO banked to go live in a national forest through to Inaugural Day, but man would it suck to reemerge and find Don Jr or somebody is somehow in the White House.

I've never even seen or read all of Les Mis and this song still gives me shivers! It's just a classic.

I am reminded that Lacamoire and Miranda called the relevant section of "Non-Stop" (in Hamilton) the "all-skate".

What a cruel trick of nature landed me with such a louse
God knows how I've lasted living with this bastard in the house!

Glad to know I’m not the only one with this song running through my head lately! That and “Do You Hear The People Sing?”

I have been waiting for the appropriate thread to post this:
How Long Will Vote Counting Take? Estimates and Deadlines in All 50 States

This weekend, I stocked up on beer and munchies for Tuesday and Wednesday. My wife and I are taking Wednesday off. I might still get ice cream.

Le Mis! So Classy, literally and socially. Mine was "Thank God and Greyhound You're Gone" with apologies to Roy Clark.

The one thing I feel is certain is that it it won't be an easy ride. Hang on tight all.

Love and support, and thank you for being the only space from which I'd want to watch the results.

One of my coworkers showed up in morning standup today sitting in the dark and eating chocolates and I was like “yes this is exactly how I will spend the entire election”

Remembrances of elections past:

March 2008. My first ever job in USA. This was shortly after I moved to this country. I was not yet a citizen, could not vote, didn't know too much about US politics. Overheard my coworker saying on my second day on the job: "Ba-rack O-ba-ma! I just can't get used to it. You can't be an American president with that kind of name." I remember mainly wondering if she would be able to pronounce my name, whether she thought I could be an American employee with my kind of name.

Nov 9, 2016: First ever election! New citizen. And boom. Wore all black to the office because what the fuck. Whaaaat the fuck. Was greeted at the front desk by co-worker who was in the absolute best spirits, smiled widely at me and offered me the candy bowl as I walked in. I must have goggled at her, I can't remember saying anything to anyone at work all day after that. I kept looking at my other co-workers and wondering, whaaaaat the fuuuuuck, does he/she sound a bit too chipper or is it just my imagination.

(I am in NY, pretty solidly blue.)

Parts of NY are solidly blue. It was red as far as the eye could see where I grew up. There was one admitted registered Democrat in the area and her house was regularly vandalized.

But he couldn't run forever
We have found his hideaway
He has fumbled his incumbency
He comes to court today*

Well, of course he now denies it
You'd expect that of a con
But he couldn't run forever
Even Individual 1

(* it's currently November 3 in Guam. Folks there get American election day extended cut)

Cautiously happy news, those 127,000 already cast votes in Texas—the judge has tossed the case for lack of standing, and included on the record that if they had standing he'd have denied the injunction on the merits as well.

I've been listening to story of tonight and my shot from Hamilton a lot since last night. And I'm not even a Hamilton fan.

Wish I was in the future watching the musical about right now.

Not to rain on parades but I would be incredibly surprised if it was just one more day.

There's going to be recounts, ongoing mail in counting, the inevitable court cases and appeals up to the new Supreme Court where, never forget not one, not two, but THERE, lawyers who worked forBush in the Bush v Gore case are now Supreme Court Justices (Roberts, Kavanaugh, Barrett).

If we know who won before December I'll be surprised. And during that entire time Trump will be tantruming and insisting that he won and the ongoing process is fake news to steal his victory.

I devoutly hope it's just one more day and even without a full count Trump concedes. But it seems really unlikely.

The song isn't about "one more day till this is over". It's "one day until something new starts."

This is called tempting fate, my friend. Now go outside, turn around three times, and spit, lest you give 2021 an excuse to say 'Hold My Beer'.

Upthread someone was talking about how tomorrow the theme song will be "Do You Hear The People Sing".

Appropriately enough - I found this entire article comparing Trump's decor aesthetic to that of King Louis XIV.

I personally have Florence + the Machine's Dog Days are Over queued up and ready to go. Been thinking about that every time I hear it for a few years now. That first "Happiness" just makes me bawl.

From the same concert, I'm also partial to the grand finale, wherein 17 international Valjeans perform "Do You Hear the People Sing" in their own languages.
