Pairs nicely with "Kirby" for the cat folks.

Update: Mom says, "This is simply too wonderful. '...go hard for a week with a plus one.'”

Hilarious, with one of the most honest lyrics I've heard in a while: 'Imma name you Monica / prolly not...that's a weird name for a dog.... / but IT RHYMES WITH HANUKKAH'

My wife is putting together a Hanukkah playlist -- SLAMMED this right over to her. Awesome.

That is still better than when Adam Sandler went with "Veronica".

She might also be interested in Leslie Odom Jr's recording of Ma'oz Tzur with his (Jewish!) wife Nicolette Robinson.

"desk-dancing badly to klezmer" was not on my list of expectations for my work day, but I am here for this

But doesn’t top the sheer inventiveness of “marijuanica”.

I love me some Daveed Diggs and I thought the video was cute, but I'm troubled by promoting pets as holiday gifts. *sigh* (I posted to Facebook with that caveat.)

I thought of that too, but he really wanted the puppy and had been asking for it for a while. It's okay under those circumstances, assuming the parents have judged his responsibility and accepted it as a family pet --

The youtube comments are pointing out the "pets as holiday gifts are dicey" argument, and someone's also urging people to adopt instead of shopping. So people are getting that message.

A lot of people, too, are pointing out that "YAY FINALLY SOMEONE IS ACKNOWLEDGING THAT THERE ARE JEWS OF COLOR!"

His Wikipedia page currently says "his mother is Jewish and his father is African-American". I hope someone rephrases that, because what the author probably meant was that his mother is Jewish, but not African-American, while his father is African-American, but not Jewish. I don't actually know, though.

Daveed Diggs has said that his mother is white and Jewish, and his father is Black and not Jewish.

It's a sweet song for sure. The problematic aspect of holiday pets is an issue that could have been solved with a line in there about adopting vs buying. But really, it is just a sweet song and I'm ok with the imperfection.

It's also from the perspective of a small child who isn't going to be making any decisions about pet adoption anyway, and we've had thirty years of very incessant insistence to not give pets as gifts (especially dogs and cats) unless you've cleared the notion with the recipient's entire household ahead of time. I'm not really bothered at all about it from a practical welfare perspective.

The little corgi puppy is also remarkably relaxed in every single shot she's in. It's extremely cute.

I do look forward to parsing the ethical implications of Christmas carols in a thread in the near future.

Doesn't the "baby it's cold outside" song count as a Christmas song? If so, the ethics of that have been hashed over a few times already.

Psst - I think that was Chura chura's point.....

Well, my comment was mostly tongue in cheek, but I do think singing about being a kid who wants a totally reasonable pet for a holiday (this is no "I want a hippopotamus for Christmas" situation) is different from a song that can easily be read as about a date rape.

Was it Autotuned or computer generated? I thought it was computer generated as a way to get around the "don't say G-d's name frivolously" rule.

I am no longer teaching Dance Aerobics, for obvious reasons, but this makes me sad that I probably never will teach again -- I know my previous class would have loved to rock out to this.

Have just discovered a "video reaction" from one of the kids who was in this - the kid who was doing the "clarinet playing" in those shots. He confesses that his dancing was inspired by Fortnite and pokes fun at his hair for "Looking like Bob Ross that day".

We have been taking conversion classes at our local synagogue since February or so of last year, so this has been our first Hannukah. We also adopted a cattle dog puppy in June.

Tonight, the spouse and roomie and I all planned a particularly lovely night: fancy hot chocolate from the fancy store mx sciatrix and I eloped in, spiked with creme liqueur, decanted into enormous mugs and topped with high peaks of whipped cream. We adjourn briefly for candles and then gifts: this happens to be the night that both mx sciatrix and I picked for the "big gifts" of the week, which is exciting. I give my roommate a couple of raccoon bacula and she gives me a letter writing kit I've wanted for some time. We all cheer, and I curl up in the corner of the sofa to sip my boozy hot chocolate and feel cosy while the eight month old cattle dog, Benton, bounced around the floors destroying wrapping paper and wagging his tail.

I lift the mug to my lips for the first time, and then I see it: Benton racing towards me, eyes glazed in crazed Hannukah puppy joy, as he leaps at full speed towards my corner of the couch. I have just enough time to scream before he lands.

The couch is covered. My holiday jammies are covered. Benton himself is spattered in cocoa and cream before being marched away to his crate for a nap. It was like something out of a sitcom.

I've had a chance to clean up now and am giggling to myself in an ENTIRELY different chair over the remains of my cocoa. I bet this never happens to people with sweaters!

Last night, after lighting five candles, the Randomlet played this song six times in a row -- specifically to earworm themselves. I can't even.

(It didn't work at earwoming me because I was already wormed, and had been humming it at them while setting up the menorah.)

"Oh yeah it's just socks" puts them rolling on the floor laughing.

I have listened to this so many times now that I think my roommate might secretly be starting to wonder if I'm converting to Judaism.
