Implode Trump Plaza for Charity!

This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to bid on the right to push the button to implode Trump Plaza, Atlantic City, NJ.

'... This will be done remotely and can be done anywhere in the world as well as close to the Plaza as we can safely get you there! All Proceeds of this auction will benefit the Boys & Girls Club of Atlantic City, NJ.'

The structure, closed in 2014, is due for demolition on January 29, 2021. “Some of Atlantic City’s iconic moments happened there, but on his way out, Donald Trump openly mocked Atlantic City, saying he made a lot of money and then got out,” said Mayor Marty Small. “I wanted to use the demolition of this place to raise money for charity.”

The auction ends on January 19, 2021, at 6pm GMT. At the time of posting, the current bid is $172,500.

Honestly, this seems like it would best be done about 9 days earlier.

I mean, does the inauguration have to take place in Washington DC?

Can they dress up the building with the old Trump signage? That might raise the bidding.

A Facebook friend said that whoever wins the bid should donate the button-pushing rights to the Central Park Five.

Someone should start a crowdfunding campaign on behalf of whoever the cheeto would find most galling. I'm thinking Michelle Obama but there are almost certainly better candidates.

does the inauguration have to take place in Washington DC?

It's a shame the announcement that it would take place at Mar-a-Lago turned out to be fake. Trump's minions must be kicking themselves that some troll thought of it before they did.

I was unduly excited by the FPP until I saw there was an extra word at the very end. “Oh, Trump PLAZA. Well... I guess that is still something.”

The timing makes sense! Bidding ends right before the inauguration day, perhaps correctly understanding that the price will only go down after that. For maximum spite, the demolition is scheduled for about a week after Trump goes mad looking for news about himself. 2013 Twitter Trump would've lost his mind over this; it should be interesting to see whether Trump manages to keep himself sufficiently entertained by Newsmax and Epoch Times, or if this seeps into his Twitter feed.

(I'm also awaiting the first post-presidency Trump story where one of the anonymous sycophants explain that Trump doesn't want to leave Twitter for Parler because the platform is just for "weirdos and losers.")

Does anyone understand how the bidding site works? The bid has dropped from $172,500 to $28,000.

Trump in 2016: "I made a lot of money in Atlantic City and left 7 years ago, great timing (as all know). Pols made big mistakes, now many bankruptcies."

I really don't think he's going to care about any of this, and will probably just point out that it proves he was right to abandon the city when he did.

But it's cathartic for the rest of us, and that's good enough.

Would have made a lot more money selling raffle tickets to do this. Most of the harm of this admin has not been to rich people, it's been to those just scraping by. Also, if you're going to drop $30k or $200k or whatever on a button-pushing ceremony, you probably aren't going to give that to the people who most deserve to do the actual button-pushing.

Just my 2 cents. Which I will happily donate to the local Boys & Girls Club even without the option to blow up some of Trump's [what's the opposite of legacy?]

It's now back up to $55,000. I think the $172,500 must have been a troll, or otherwise failed verification. Shame - I'm sure it'll get back up there.

Not sure what it is like in New Jersey but here raffles that aren't on the down low are considered to be lotteries and come saddled with regulations a straight up sale doesn't.

Mitheral, that's the case with raffles in New Jersey as well. Even the local PTO or animal rescue here needs to fill out significant paperwork and get a permit for raffles. Yesterday was my birthday, I hope someone took the hint when I posted this auction to Facebook.

I took many, many trips to Atlantic City during the aughts. My friends and I would always start our nights at the Tropicana and work our way up the boardwalk.

What we learned very quickly was to skip the Trump Plaza.

Even after the first visit, beyond just the aesthetic failings of the place, it was depressing to be in. I don't know that I can really explain it clearly, but there was just a pall that hung over the place that made it unpleasant to be in. Maybe it really was on the cutting edge of what Atlantic City was going to become just a few years later, or maybe that's just Trump magic at work.

It appears the owner is still a Trump entity. So even if there was a mass gofundme etc to get the Central Park Five to implode the building, in the end... wouldn't the donation to the Boys & Girls Club of Atlantic City, NJ still be tax deductible for the Trump organization?

Seems like a continued masterful troll at the expense of the "American people" for the benefit of the Trump brand...
