A Very Chilly Christmas is a collection of Christmas tunes reimagined in a minor key by piano virtuoso Chilly Gonzales, with contributions by Feist, Jarvis Cocker, and cellist Stella Le Page. Chilly breaks down his reinterpretation of Silent Night and how he “hacked” holiday classics for a very strange year.

Excellent! I went for that happy happy Jingle Bells to see what he did. Much improved. Christmas music I can actually listen to...

He talked about his version of Last Christmas with the Switched On Pop Podcast.

Oh, sorry about the video not available thing! Stupid YouTube. You might be able to find it on Spotify or something!

It is on Spotify. Love, love, love. I’ve always heard most of the songs this way in my head, and used to drive my mother crazy singing them this way. Understandable since I can’t sing chords...I’m going to send her this album so she knows what I was hearing all those years ago.

My partner is really beating me up over this album though. She calls it Addams Family Christmas. “In The Bleak Midwinter” made her laugh until she cried but no really I’m crying.

You really have to play a good version of Szomorú vasárnap to tie it all together at the end.

See, when 10-year-old me played Xmas music in minor, it was lauded as "... interesting" and "please play it the regular way."

The cover of Snow Is Falling In Manhattan is pretty great, but maybe not better than the David Berman original.

Christmas tunes reimagined in a minor key

It is possible that the intended effect was to make them more melancholy, but my immediate reaction was just, "Oh! Chanukkah music!"

These are fun, thanks for sharing.

The version of Last Christmas is beautiful. I can't wait to listen to some of the other stuff.
