2020 could not have been worse. So, let's give it the send-off it deserves. #EFF2020: A Holiday Campaign (NSFW, F-bombs galore (but are you really at work?)) to benefit The Mental Health Coalition. #EFF2020.

My sentiments exactly...

Huh. The first thing I saw was "that's a css color" (I do Javascript, please kill me). Depending on how you treat this value, it's either a shade of red, piss yellow, or a faded acid green.

2020 could not have been worse.

You had to say it before we’re over the line, didn’t you.

Same-ish to Old'n'Busted, I read that hashtag (truncated one of the 'f's) as an RGB color - an extremely bright red.

...too much time in Photoshop...

It's got seven digits so it's not going to work as a hex encoding of color values, unless you drop the trailing 0 in which case #eff202 is yellow tinged with green. Though if you treat the trailing 0 as an alpha value, it's transparent and there's no color.

I don't think I can take watching Black Mirror's take on 2020.

Yeah, but I have four good things that happened: Trump lost, 2 vaccines, and the Gavle Goat didn't burn yet. At least three of those can't help but lead to SOME improvements in 2021.

I also just turned on this video while watching Hallmark Channel and the combination of Hallmark and a bunch of "Fuck you!'s" was really amusing.

My mom died at 3:30 on Christmas day from covid, and that was after making the decision to put her on a vent on Christmas Eve. She had been in the hospital since the day after Thanksgiving. I am very tired. I know there are several days left in 2020..... but it can fuck off into a fire made of fires.

I don't think I can take watching Black Mirror's take on 2020.

It's not Black Mirror, it's Charlie Booker's annual year end comedy show. It's more like regular dry humorous comedy, not pitch black ironic death comedy like Black Mirror.

My deepest heartfelt sympathies, Gyre,Gimble,Wabe, Esq.

If it helps in even the very slightest, I still have many, many fuck yous left to give to this unbelievably terrible year, and I will send some up in memory of your mother if that's not too sacrilegious where you're from.

Yeah, before Black Mirror, Charlie Brooker was best known for Screenwipe, an extremely sarcastic program about the week in television, and how TV is made. It evolved into a year-end program, of which Death to 2020 is a clear descendent.

Presumably it has Philomena Cunk in it, who is a beautiful comic creation, a woman perpetually on the crest of the Dunning-Kruger curve.

(I did not like this video because I am all for saying 'fuck 2020' but it pretty rapidly went into saying 'fuck you' to specific people, which feels very American right now but is not at all how I feel, where We all pulled together and mostly kept COVID out of the country.)

I was aware that Brits are much more free with use of the "c-word" than we are on this side of the pond, but this was the first time I've heard it used as a verb.

I'm staying up for midnight on December 31st.

Not to ring in the New Year, but to make sure this one stays dead.

This is the poem I included in my holiday cards this year:

Burning the Old Year
By Naomi Shihab Nye

Letters swallow themselves in seconds.
Notes friends tied to the doorknob,
transparent scarlet paper,
sizzle like moth wings,
marry the air.

So much of any year is flammable,
lists of vegetables, partial poems.
Orange swirling flame of days,
so little is a stone.

Where there was something and suddenly isn’t,
an absence shouts, celebrates, leaves a space.
I begin again with the smallest numbers.

Quick dance, shuffle of losses and leaves,
only the things I didn’t do
crackle after the blazing dies.

--------------------------------------------------------

Gyre,Gimble,Wabe, Esq., I am so sorry. My family lost someone December 11, so I have a small sense of how this holiday is for you. Thinking of you and your family at this difficult time.

I'm going to keep this memento for the ages.

It's a sign notifying people of the prohibition on dancing, and the threat of a 6000$ fine. 2019 me would have thought of Gilead or the taliban if they'd seen this.

I'll show it to the kids and explain, yeah, they outlawed dancing, and it was absolutely the right move. The dancing had to stop so we could all live.

Fuck 2020.

You can also have nobbing, cocking, arseing and titting, among others. British swearing has quite flexible rules, ones that have proven quite useful over the last twelve months.
