All music videos in 2021 should include Phoebe Waller-Bridge having the time of her life

That was entirely charming and is the first song that is new to me that I've heard in 2021 and that's a great way to start off a year! Thank you!

PWB's last look at the end of the video is soooooooo Flea Bag, makes me want to know what her line would have been.

I did not know that I needed these two lovely humans dancing in sparkly argyle sweater vests in my life, but am glad to have rectified this lack.

I genuinely do not know which of them I am more jealous of, what a delight!

Am I ever not going to be a little freaked out by seeing people not wearing masks? I mean, I'm sure they took all kinds of precautions and bubbled and whatever. But as much as I want to love this, my lizard brain keeps going too close too close too close

I have no proof of this, but I wonder if (for insurance reasons if nothing else) what we are seeing is a heck of a lot of motion-control camera shots of single dancers against a green screen. Special effects are not just for adding dragons and talking badgers to your movies any more.

And frankly, adding a joyous Phoebe Waller-Bridge to things is a use of SFX I strongly approve of.

For 2021, I want someone to look at me the way PWB looks at 2:06. TIA.

Phoebe Waller-Bridge really needs to save some talent for everyone else.

Anyway, this was a delight.

One thing I really like about this is how it's edited. Yeah, it's got too many cuts in it -- it isn't going to win any awards from the Fred Astaire School Of Filming Dance Routines... But the way it's cut, it's obvious this isn't just any slapdash set of shots woven together to give the impression of choreography.

No, instead, the entire piece is shot to where, if you wanted to learn the dance moves, it would be entirely easy to do so. Even despite the edits. This is true all along the entire run of the video, but certainly jumps out at you at the 2m20s mark where H & P begin dancing together.

Really fun. I don't know if I actually have the ambition to learn the dance, but I'm certainly feeling like I could, if I were inspired to.

Yay! Now I can enjoy this without fretting about Phoebe Waller-Bridges' health! I prefer to think of her skritching kittens' bellies while they purr and make bread in mid-air with their little beans! I dunno if that is a thing she does; she might be terribly allergic to cat fur for all I know, but I have made my choice.

And here I thought last spring's yeast shortages and bread-making craze was about a literal, edible breadpan-demic. A parallel purrdemic of kittens kneading bread is far more awesome.

eveimath: No actual bread involved. I refer to this behaviour. Picture adding Phoebe to this situation.

True confession: I've never seen Fleabag, nor have I seen the Solo movie in which PWB appeared with Donald Glover. But I still find this video of Glover and PWB to be utterly delightful; it's from a British Buzzfeed-type site that does a video series where they take random foods from two different countries, match them up against each other and have a celebrity or two judge which one is better. (They're so flirty I was genuinely surprised to learn that Donald Glover is married with three kids.) It's another "Phoebe Waller-Bridge having fun" video.

“Appeared” is not precisely the right word. She was CGIed away and there is a droid in her place, who sounds like a delightful but not unflappable Phoebe Waller-Bridge.
posted by ricochet biscuit at 10:12 AM on January 4, 2021

She acted the role on set wearing a droid costume over a green leotard and the SFX people cut the green parts out and added the rest of the droid parts. She was one of the few bright spots in that dull film.

That is entirely amazing and I had no idea. It's like, the performance wasn't CGI, it was a human actor. The appearance was CGI, but the performance was not.

I only saw Solo once and hated it. I might have to watch it again just to see her.
