How To Be At Home

Filmmaker Andrea Dorfman and Poet Tanya Davis bring us How To Be At Home, an animated poem about coping in the time of COVID. The short is part of a series by NFB Canada called The Curve that explores the physical and emotional aspects of pandemic isolation.

How to be at home is also a sequel, of sorts, to How To Be Alone.

Want more of that sweet, sweet CanCon to while away the hours? The NFB's website and YouTube channel are criminally underwatched and filled with diverse Canadian voices.

Years ago I had the NFB's app on my Roku, and it was clunky and difficult to use and sometimes broke, so I watched a few things and then deleted it. Now I see the website and youtube channel have TONS more fascinating stuff than was available back then, so thank you for setting up my holiday weekend screen viewing!

Yes, their website used to be excruciating to navigate. It has always been worth exploring, though. The NFB is a lot more daring with its content than you'd expect from a public agency. For example, this bizarre procedurally generated film experiment from Guy Maddin.

NFB has a few films in a People with Disabilities category, too. The first two are about dating and intimacy, which may or may not pair well with the poem’s suggestion of movies-with-the-lights-turned-down.

Thank you! I love procgen'd stories - I had never seen a movie generator before this one!

I've thought about doing an FPP on Sceances before, but I've never quite found enough other bits to post with it and didn't want to post just a single link. Here's the NFB page on it for some context about the project.
