Lego Braille Bricks come to Australia, helping kids with vision impairment to learn by touch - ABC News

"It gets you to be creative and make images and words, so it's pretty cool that you could be doing braille while having a lot of fun."

The bricks aren't available for sale to the general public but are being distributed to schools by Vision Australia.

In retrospect it was a really obvious and inevitable idea: looking at the top of a Lego brick is almost like looking at a Braille template. But only in retrospect! What clever and charming idea!

I rather wish that I had this when I was a kid. I used to love Lego, but never really made the connection between them and Braille. :-)

This is so cool! And indeed, perfectly obvious once you've heard it, which makes it all the better.

There are SO many interesting possibilities here -- if the instructions are audible, why not have them include soundscapes, unique puzzles, and so on?

Yeah, this is definitely one of those brilliant things where everyone suddenly goes "hey, wait, why didn't we do that before?"

Part of me thinks this is cool and long overdue. But another part of me is shrieking, "But the DOTS are the wrong fucking SIZE!"
