Some Beautiful Harmony For the Deeps of Winter

"Good Woman", the new album from Hertfordshire's The Staves has been released today, and early reviews are looking good. The sisters talked with the Independent and NME about the album, and YouTube has a wealth of older clips, including videos that are in some sense "official", as well as many live performances, and one beautiful rehearsal in a hallway.

The Staves! Dead & Born & Grown is an album I return to again and again. Their voices are superb companions for times of loss, hardship and renewal. Not to mention the harmonies are flat-out gorgeous. I can't wait to hear the new album. ALSO there's a livestreaming show tonight!!

I've never heard of this group before, but this is really good music. Thank you!

The track "Sparks" [SLYT] is gorgeous.

I adore The Staves. Like Lucius, another band with incredible vocal talents at it core, they marry technical virtuosity with deep wells of feeling.

The collaboration they did with Y Music is a beloved album, especially on cold winter nights. Fun trivia about that album - a lot of the songs are inspired by the witches in the His Dark Materials trilogy.

Thanks for this post, Ipsifendus!

I love The Staves and am still kicking myself years later for missing a chance to see them live. In fact, I was just yesterday listening to another album, If I Was, and wondering if they were still recording new music. Thanks for posting!

(And thanks, minervous, for reminding me of the album with Y Music -- I'd forgotten about that one, and had no idea about the witches!)
