I just looked up the dimensions of the rover- 6 ft long x 8 ft wide x 7 ft tall, and 2200 lbs. That's a compact car!

Emily Lakdawalla's The Design and Engineering of Curiosity: How the Mars Rover Performs Its Job has been giving me the stink eye from my shelf for almost 3 years now. I hope Ms L. completes its sequel on Curiosity's results soon. I'd like to read them back to back.

I can heartily recommend Steve Squyres' Roving Mars: Spirit, Opportunity, and the Exploration of the Red Planet. A 40-minute film, Disney's Roving Mars, is also available.
