More Textile Eye Candy

Pushing the Limits is a group show exploring the range of creative expression in shaft-loom weaving. Assembled into a virtual exhibition by textile artist Olivier Masson, you can navigate on your own or be flown-through to visit all the works and charming slideshow of photos of the weavers and their looms. The virtual show is admittedly not a great experience on a phone, so you might also enjoy the abridged catalog (PDF) with photos of the works. For a little context, here's a writeup of the show by weaver Stacey Harvey-Brown, whose work "Shoal" is included in the show.

Note: the navigation instructions are available from the ? button, and you'll need 'em. It's the only way to get to the labels & artist info, and it's not at all obvious how to get back to the show.

This interface is pretty slow to load, but wow! These are so beautiful. I kept thinking "oh, wow, I could have that hanging on my wall and look at it for years" over and over as new pieces were displayed. Such lovely amazing work that plays with abstract concepts that are right up my art alley.

The whole experience was clunky, though. Clicking through for information about a specific artwork kicks you out of the museum to a separate webpage, meaning when you go back you have to reload the gallery and start from the beginning again. That was annoying.

Man, now I want an abstract tapestry panel for my house!

Thanks so much for posting. Really beautiful and fascinating work.

Gorgeous! Thank you very much for sharing - I wouldn't have run across it otherwise and it's delightful.

Incredible work, but the UI made me feel like I was about to be eaten by a grue.

I'm very taken with the dongle he used on Pointcarré, his weaving software: How was Pointcarré born ?

That’s delightful, scruss! I am a Fiberworks and now a Weavepoint person, so I had only heard of Poincarre (and frankly more of the math/physics guy)...
I actually stalled on posting this for a long time because the UI is so awful, figuring MeFi would eat my face for it. But the work in the show is really interesting, so I took a chance.

I am delighted, if a little seasick. Thanks for posting this!
