Those people who seem to believe their own stories

"something more complicated, more psychologically knotty, is clearly going on." Helen Lewis (Twitter; previously) explores a series of people who faked their identities by pretending to histories of suffering and marginalization.

After tweeting about her article, Lewis pointed to a more male version of these stories, military Munchausen's.

This post was deleted for the following reason: Eesh, the subject itself may be interesting but it seems like Lewis has a pretty shitty track record of transphobic positions, let's give this writing a pass. -- cortex

I think Helen Lewis groups transgender people in the same category, unfortunately.

Oh man, this was bizarre and fascinating. That image by Adam H is so good.

Superimposed identity is very interesting. It's a bit like narcisissm, only in that the traits are incredibly difficult but seemingly completely innocuous to the subject. Many people wouldn't seem to understand they were potentially engaged in very destructive interactions or mindsets. It's still absurd and very bizarre Krug actually arrived at a point of self awareness during such a politically unrested time.

...I would nooot group gender identity/LGBTQI within this. This is the only mention I'll make of it. ..maybe body dysmorphophobia? Which is similar but inverted.

Ah, an outright TERF.
