Yes - it's actually the apparent opacity of the banana that is the illusion produced when viewed through the atmosphere. People get that wrong a lot.

That banana was not properly tidally locked to the earth, so I'm not sure how seriously I can take this demonstration.

My bananas turn brown in two weeks or so, which suggests this banana may be quite recent. What happens to the color of a banana in vacuum with a few hundred Kelvin loading is a question I don't know the answer to.

If I had to limit my banana consumption to bananas which came from the same distance from me that the ISS is from the earth's surface, I would have no bananas.
