I've got most of his recordings, and enjoy and respect his music. But I did hear, that once his underground following started growing, his label organized a promotional concert tour. And sales went down.

I was lucky enough to see him at Kane Hall on the UW campus in the 1980s or, possibly, in 1973.

The one in 1973 is listed as available online but under what appears to be very hinky you-have-four-viruses ransomware type circumstances. I bailed immediately.

At any rate and whatever the date, he was sober, voluble and witty and his picking was flawless -- he did not miss one note. I was blown away.

It ranks in the top five of my concert experiences. It was an overwhelmingly powerful experience.

I saw him play in 1970 in Vermont, he was drunk, and brilliant.
