Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, aka "Bad Bunny" the Puerto Rican singer, has been taking the world by storm. Featured on Cardi B's I like it (Like that), Bad Bunny has been grinding and climbing sin parar..

Bad Bunny went from working in a super market to super star in a decade, releasing THREE ALBUMS in the year of the pandemic: YHLQMDLG, Las que no iban a salir and most recently El Último Tour Del Mundo,

But why is he important?

CNN says he's championing a New Masculinity for Latino men

He performed an entire Live Concert atop a flatbed truck in New York, playing for Frontline Workers and first responders for Hispanic Heritage Month and on the anniversary of Hurricane Maria

He's used his platform to unabashedly speak on behalf of Alexa, a transgender woman murdered in Puerto Rico

In his video Yo Perrero Sola he cosplays as a woman and sings about Independence and autonomy, dedicated to those who want to dance alone and safely at a club, without harassment
More on the Video/Song here

Bad Bunny has been ticking off his life-dreams.... heating up SNL with a super-sexy performance with Rosalia

He also has been featured going all-in on WWE participating without irony, and with full gusto

Tickets for his 2022 El Último Tour Del Mundo sold out in hours, but Bunny shows no sign of stopping or slowing down...

I knew almost nothing about him, and as the featured “celebrity guest” for Wrestlemania, I just assumed he’d do what they also do, come in, be blasé, and half heartedly do some basic wrestling moves that make the guys there day in and day out look like shit.

I was utterly wrong, and the match he did was amazing. He went all out, took some opposing moves in convincing ways, and was easily the best celebrity guest wrestler that’s even been on the show. If he wanted a career in wrestling, he could have it pretty easily. Definitely worth watching the match.

Definitely worth watching the match

I hadn't watched wrestling since I was a kid, and seeing him in WWE TOTALLY took me back to being a kid again. <3 I simply could not stop smiling.

The album he did with J Balvin in 2019 was an absolute banger. It was a great summer vibe that seems like forever ago now.

Bad Bunny as a plant coming to life and singing about mental illness in a woman's COVID shutdown-induced hallucination is one of my favorite SNL sketches of the past few years.

J Balvin is also an AMAZING advocate for Mental Health and has been really open with his struggles with anxiety. I just love these young musicians - they're getting it.

Musically he is not my favorite (though with some songs I definitely appreciate), but I really like his overall approach, especially around gender identity. I'd probably call it performance art, but I'm not sure he would see it that way. I hadn't seen the wrestling videos before, those are fun.

One of these days I am going to put the finishing touches on a timeline post that's Daddy Yankee to Maluma to Bad Bunny (without leaving out Shakira, Karol G, and Rosalía).

Reggaeton bleeds into trap bleeds into dembow and you can find it everywhere from the mainland US all the way down to the tip of South America. The first time I heard Osmani García and Pitbull's El Taxi, I was in a teeny-tiny club full of awkward teenagers out in the literal jungle in rural Colombia.

It's music that millions of people are listening to, and major artists in the mainland US are collaborating with major artists outside it to produce incredibly popular songs, but unless there's a breakthrough hit like Despacito then it seems like broader culture in the US is content to ignore it. So bizarre - but I'm hopeful that Bad Bunny is starting to change things.

Those of you with a Defector account might appreciate their article on Bad Bunny's wrestling debut.

Also, Yo Perreo Sola is one of my favorite songs and I wish I'd had it when I was perreando back in my 20s.

Obviously there’s more to him than wrestling, but honestly that’s all I really know him for, so I need to throw this one more thing out: the Canadian Destroyer (the leapfrogging flip into a piledriver) that he did outside the ring? He learned that the day before the match.

Also, from that article, it turns out his tag partner, Damien Priest, was dealing with a back injury, so Bad Bunny essentially had to carry the match. Hot damn, that’s honestly unbelievable.

I know more about his music than Wrestling, but I have to say - that "Double Falcon Arrow" (??) move made me scream like when I saw Cardi B and Meghan thee Stallion's WAP performance at the Grammy's. The coordination! The showmanship! The dedication to performance!

It has been so long since a young celebrity has been so unrelentingly interesting to me since hearing him (for the first time) on Cardi's "I Like it". Everything he's been doing has been fun and fascinating to watch. I only wish great and wonderful things for his future.

OMG did you not SCREAM when you saw him twerking with himself?! What a great video and song!
