I didn't think I was going to enjoy watching someone else comment his way through a full English. But this guy is great. Going to watch all of his videos now.

I think he's after the world record in how many times it's possible to call someone 'love' in a single interaction. By 'eck.

We had something not too dissimilar here in Austin decades ago. It was Virginia's. Virginia was the proprietor, cook, waitress and scullion. Hours were irregular depending whether she had a doctor's appointment that day or not. And the menu was what she had decided to cook that day. It was up on a chalk board. Each small table was supplied with a note pad and a golf pencil. Write your order down, place it on the edge of your table and she would pick it up when she had time. The back wall of the small space was filled with gas ovens and much of the cooking appeared to be done in cast iron. The service was glacial. Thirty minutes to an hour waits were normal. And gawd help you if you complained. She would hand you a xeroxed map to the closest McDonald's. And you might as well leave because you weren't getting fed. But for all of that, the food was devine and well worth the trouble...

The service was glacial.

Heh, the most memorable glacial service for me was the Maseno Club, in Maseno, Kenya, about 45 minutes from Kisumu, the third largest city. There were just a handful of places to eat, and the club was the one for nice occasions and hosting guests and whatnot. It was basically a law of nature that no matter how few people were around, no matter how small the order, it would take a solid 45 minutes minimum to get to the table. To make a chicken plate, after all, you first have to incubate the egg, raise the chick, get a couple good laying seasons out of it, butcher, cook, and plate it up... I was vegetarian: Luckily it's somewhat faster to hoe the fields, plant the potatoes, harvest, chop, and deep fry 'em.

All in good fun, of course; once one knows what to expect, it's just a matter of showing up early with a deck of cards and some long topics of conversation.

What a brilliant channel this is, and just when I ran out of YouTube to watch. Thanks mumimor!

This woman is so going to get shut down, isn't she?

In the youtube comments she says she got reported to authorities within 15 minutes of posting the video on her facebook page. It didn't soumd like she got into trouble enough to shut down, though.

His videos are great; I'm watching the deep fried chip butty one now. I'd love to go on an eating tour with him.

When I lived in Austin my office used to order out from a pop-up taqueria run by a granny out of various residences. It seemed like the city would shut her down, then we would see flyers for the new location... no one ever got sick, and the food was delicious.

I knew this man was solid the moment he said he hated beans in a pot and didn't know why people served them that way. SO TRUE.

That did look like exceptionally good toast.

Me: this looks like a scene on Coronation Street

20 seconds later

Danny: this is weird, I feel like I'm sitting on Coronation Street

Baked beans in a pot: I love baked beans, but I don’t like the way they spread out on the plate and make all the other tasty items taste like baked beans. I want differentiated flavours!

Anyway, thank you! This was the comfort watch I needed today.

I'm an American who gets everything about a full breakfast except the beans. And I love beans.

How did no one mention he brought his own table and chairs! This is fantastic, thanks for sharing.

except the beans

Yeah, I’m a Brit and I will never accept that beans in a breakfast have become acceptable, let alone canonical.

The beans in a pot people I can disagree with, but still understand to a certain degree, but the no beans for breakfast people defy all my powers of comprehension.

I am sorry for you that this pleasure has eluded you. Perhaps a trip to Bolton will change your minds, though.

I love that he's just plonked himself down on the sidewalk with a folding table and chair. That was terrific.

"Crackin' breakfast, Gromit!"

Just £8 for that delicious breakfast?!? How is she making any money?

How is she making any money?

Food delivery (which is primarily what Grandma's Kitchen does) runs on tight margins, but they're saving a good chunk on overheads by not having a storefront and by running a fixed menu to allow economies of scale. Clearly they're also using social media extremely effectively, so I bet their marketing generally is very effective and cost-efficient, and they probably have surprisingly high turnover. It's a really smart business model: taking bits from fast-food delivery and catering/meals on wheels services while aiming at a hugely underserved part of the meal-delivery market, both in operating hours and demographic.

The above is probably not quite as romantic as the picture painted by the video, but it's definitely more impressive.

Are "ghost kitchens" a thing in the UK? (Basically delivery/carryout only, no dining room at all. Cheaper to set up than a full-fledged restaurant, and from what I understand, several different brands can be run out of the same facility.)

Also, in a full English breakfast, must the eggs be fried? Would asking for scrambled eggs be like that time John Kerry asked for Swiss on his cheesesteak? Inquiring minds want to know...

I guess this video must be doing well - I read this thread on MeFi early this morning, and later on today, I was on YouTube, on a completely different device, and the algorithm "recommended" it.

Anyway, I like the Rate My Takeaway guy, though his accent is hard to understand sometimes.

Ghost kitchens are a thing in England at least, and (at least in London and the SE) eggs can be fried, scrambled, poached...
