The film is based on the song.

Yeah, the kids are alright - I've been watching them all day - here's some more

I just saw this because Jay Smooth retweeted with the header: "I hate when people overhype things on on twitter so I will just state calmly that this is the greatest thing I've ever seen in my life."

Can't disagree.

Give them all the money.

My favorite exchange on Twitter:

some rando:
@BeckTheGirl They have potential, but that unfortunately isn't anything to be considered music. If they fine tune their skills and really think outside the box instead of making something like this they could go far.
Pete Gontier:
@SpiritGuide270 @BeckTheGirl Until you landed this condescension I confess I had no idea the song was also a summoning ritual.

Their music gives me serious Scott Pilgrim vibes.
Feels like the kind of band Knives would've had in the sequel.

(I mean that as a compliment, btw)

That's the good stuff. Crunch plus rage plus style equals gold.

Some blog posts documenting the formation and history of the Linda Lindas with lots of content from Eloise's dad and mom, Martin Wong and Wendy Lau. Martin was co-founder and editor of Giant Robot magazine, and is currently the co-founder of the Save Music in Chinatown concert series. Wendy was art director of Giant Robot and is a freelance art director/graphic designer.

So that explains some things. But those girls rock and they really brightened my day yesterday.

The Linda Lindas are featured prominently in the Netflix movie Moxie, which I enjoyed way more than I expected to.

But I'm embarrassed to say that I assumed the band name was a reference to this viral video. I should have known they were cooler than that.

No teenage girl should have to be subject to that kind of toxicity. That must have been awful.

Also:
Some poor kid's Dad told him one thing, the kid of course trusted his Dad, and nobody told him any reason not to trust his Dad's take FIRST before basically demonizing this child. In public.

These kinds of interactions are the cusps where children are either taught or lost.

Whether you follow a faith book or church or not, the argument for compassion has never been more important.

Empathy does not imply agreement.

"nobody told him any reason not to trust his Dad's take FIRST before basically demonizing this child"

I get your point but I don't think there's any evidence to believe that he's never been told not to say racist, sexist stuff. Did I miss mention of that?

Oh, lord, are we going to have YET ANOTHER round of people arguing that criticizing somebody without identifying them is "demonizing" them?

Saying "a boy in my class was racist" is not "demonizing" anybody. That's ridiculous.

Plus the RCB in question now has a lot of options: he can stay anonymous and learn to do better, or he can out himself, claim to be a victim of cancel culture, and embark on a lucrative career of right-wing professional shitbirdism.

I had the same thought! I'm sure Kim would be happy to fill in on drums from time to time.

("Is that girl a 'boy'?" "Yes.")

I'm not a fan of punk, but I was smiling all the way through this. Righteous anger FTW.

How about let's not make this about the nameless racist, sexist boy in the song and let it be about these awesome girls?

"Some people say little girls should be seen and not heard. Well I say...." rock out in the goddamned library.

I first heard them in the soundtrack to this excellent short film (Netflix). And I learned a bit more about them from Variety. And they cover Rebel Girl as the penultimate song in their library appearance.
