"Send the abysmal chump to Romania! Hell, buy his ticket!"

In June 2017, a woman wrote to E. Jean Carroll, "About a month ago, I discovered that my husband has been conducting an expensive, three-month affair with a 25-year old Romanian Cam Girl. He hasn't met her in person yet (we live in Seattle), but he was making plans to leave me, and move his job to Bucharest, when I stumbled on the evidence." In a "where are they now" update, E. Jean Carroll reports that she received a second letter from the woman in November 2017, that she has since met her in person on several occasions, and traces the course of her life since that initial letter.

This post was deleted for the following reason: This has received quite a few flags, and while on one hand it's kind of fun "hoist by your own petard" schadenfreude, there are a lot of interthreaded issues that have been pointed out in flags and in comments: wealth inequity, ethnic and financial prejudice, snide commentary on looks and weight, and some other ugliness ... ultimately this may be more the sort of thing that works on better on twitter or similar, but just not great for productive discussion on Mefi. -- taz

..very slightly nice to see when people chase scandals, sometimes the scandal becomes them. Oops.

Enjoy the flight to Romania, butthole.

Anecdotal:
"the big jacuzzi of Tinder:" kindest description of Twitter I've ever seen.

This is cute.

There's a good anecdote in here buried under all the self-admiration and judgemental crap. The reason sex workers who scam people are bad is because they're scammers, not because they're sex workers.

I read this through, then as soon as I'd finished I read it through again thinking, ahhhhh. It was like a refreshing summer cocktail of words.

Sometimes the happy ending lies in realizing someone isn't worth hanging on to, and releasing them in order to leave yourself free for new and better things and people.

Hell yeah this would make a wonderful movie. The tears, the laughter, the sweet revenge of a life well lived! So satisfying.

I don't know. Something about this article doesn't sit well with me.

A "trim, attractive", well-to-do woman's husband cheats on her with a scammer from a poor country. And the the advice columnist finds it HILARIOUS how unattractive the girl really is. And encourages the readers to enlarge the picture to see for themselves. And HA HA cheap hotel room.

Maybe it's because I grew up in a Central European country and had to wear hand-me-downs until I was in med school, the sneering just rubs me the wrong way.

Good on this lady for ditching her husband, and finding love but the tone the columnist chose to take made me cringe.

I mean, to what degree is the cam girl actually a scammer? It sounds like she's a cam girl who may or may not do full service sex work on the side and her clients are expected to pony up for cam shows and presents. That's what cam girls do, that's the whole point, it's not a scam any more than, eg, a dancer at a strip club is "scamming" guys who buy drinks and tip her. Further, if you strike up a professional connection with someone in a business where the point is to look sexy on camera, they probably don't look the same IRL; again, not a scam, just how the business works. Like, my barber isn't my personal friend either, even though he's a good guy and we've had some decent conversations.

I would bet that she never said anything about marrying the guy, or if she did it was "ooooh, I'm sorry, I could never be serious with you because you have a wife, I'm very religious, you'll just have to settle for being a customer" and the husband decided that meant "I can't wait to marry you as soon as you divorce that old hag, your wife". If Sonia Crystall is making good money and has a strong customer base, she's probably not in fact looking to marry anyone, or maybe only looking to marry someone with the kind of money to take her away from all that. Let's hope that she's keeping a fair percentage of the money and not being shaken down for it by some pimp-like organization.

The husband is obviously a prize creep as well as a fool and the wife is well shot of him. A lot of self delusion there and a lot of...not racism but ethnocentrism, I guess, where he believes that Romania is such a hell-hole that naturally he, an American forty-something with nothing in particular to recommend him, looks like a literal prince to an unusually pretty young woman, and that the young woman has so little personality and so few preferences that she has decided, based on cam interactions, that she'd like to spend her whole life with him, and that in fact having few preferences and no judgement are natural and good characteristics in the "real" women of lower income countries, not corrupted by feminism but happy to marry randos who don't even have a lot of money to recommend them.

I don't know, it seems like the ex-wife has a lot of money, like a lot of money, and the husband doesn't and the cam girl doesn't and that is the underlying story, the story about the money and what it gets you in the end.
