Mötorhead’s classic “Ace of Spades”, played on some really big bells. (SLYT) Lemmy would be proud, I’m sure. Also notable: look at how the carillon is pounding the keys with his fists!

Dutch carilloneurs are amazing. It's worth searching out Boudewijn Zwart on YouTube - eg Stairway to Heaven.

I read somewhere that the University of Texas at Austin has a bell tower which it occasionally uses to play rock songs. Louie Louie was mentioned as an example.

The University of Illinois at Urbana/Champaign has the Altgeld Chimes, right off the quad. The music students are pretty serious about it but towards the end of the year they loosen up with some fun tunes.

One of my favorite memories was taking a final exam in the building and "If I Only Had a Brain" started playing right above me...

Where are the drums coming from? Do they have a backing track?

That was delightful, especially the rapt dude just beaming up at the carillon.

I'd like to hear what it sounded like in the town, with just the bells. Seems like cheating to have guitar and drums in here.

That said, "Ace of Spades" may be the most perfect single rock song ever written and it absolutely holds up in this format. I watched it with my toddler and said "this rules, right?" and she confirmed it with a sage nod and an "mmm."

How would someone learn to play the instrument, or practice, without making everyone for miles suffer - does it have a sort of silent mode?

I've had to suffer for my art. Now it's your turn.

Could they hear the guitar on the ground? I was curious to know what the ground experience was like.

Boudewijn (see above) ran a school
In Dordrecht. You get practice carillons that are basically a glockenspiel with a keyboard. I can confirm that I can't play a carillon for shit, but you can see me (I'll leave you to wonder) doing entirely different things with bells with the practice carillon on the back wall behind us.
