Themes, dreams and schemes - We're gonna need more ice!

Over 100 episodes broadcast between 2006 and 2009, Bob Dylan hosted "Theme Time Radio Hour". After a hiatus of 12 years ("I mean, does anybody even still have a radio? Some folks might even be listening on a smart toaster."), a new episode emerged in 2020: Whiskey (playlist).

The show was prompted by Dylan's creation of "Heaven's Door" bourbon (decorated with his own wrought ironwork design). Previously.

And here I was, thinking my Breville was the ultimate in toaster intelligence!

I had no idea this radio show existed! How much fun is this?! Listening to Whiskey now, but will keep the show tab around and work my way through the entire run. Personable Bob Dylan is the best Bob Dylan.

I know his producer whose huge audio collection provided the music or the original series. His Christmas mixes are legendary.

Yeah. There are many things I like and dislike about Dylan, but his profound love of music and song, and the pleasure he takes in sharing the music of others, are not just his best qualities as a public person; in many ways they're his saving grace.

Is there such a thing? I saw Dylan in concert a few years ago. I paid over $200 to sit near the front. Dylan and his band set up at the back of the stage. No one ever came within 30 feet of the front edge. Dylan never spoke or gave any other sign that he knew the audience was there.

These were unavailable last time I scoured the internet for them, I'm so excited to dig into them again!

I love that the show comes from very evocative and specific location: "Studio B of the historic Abernathy Building, built in 1848" - and that this location building turns out not to exist at all.

He's notoriously disappointing live. I've seen him twice live, and was really unimpressed. He rushes through the songs, and most of them aren't recognizable even to fans. Occasionally he will give an amazing live show, I hear, but that's probably only because even a stopped clock is right twice a day.

I used to love Theme Time Radio Hour and am excited there's a new(ish) episode to enjoy. Dylan's knowledge of music is just incredible.

I saw him a decade or two ago at the Santa Cruz Civic. A pretty good show in a small venue that he really didn't have to bother with. Maybe I got lucky.

Yes. Basically everyone who has seen Dylan has this story. But it's not always that way. He's been a groovy frood for an entire tour at a time, but not recently. He mostly perks up with special shows (e.g. rdr's experience, what makes a show special for him remains unrevealed) or things like this radio show. He's obviously having a ball here.

Ah ha! Figured out how to download the episodes. Even better!

So, I did this in Safari on macOS, don't know about other browsers.

On the show website, clicked play on the player, as soon as the audio started playing, right-clicked on the grey background of the player, and was given "save audio file as..." or something as an option.

I had to do this manually for all the shows, but it worked. Now in my iPod for enjoyment anytime!
