Jonah Hill on the Myth of the Damaged Artist

Jonah Hill Is SuperGood - His 20s were wild: a parade of raunchy, era-defining comedies. Then Jonah Hill shifted gears, directing a deeply personal film and taking on the kinds of rich, complex roles he’s always wanted. Here he opens up to director Adam McKay (another funny guy gone serious-ish) about that evolution—and how nice it is when your happiness finally catches up with your success. [GQ]

I read this article last night and set it aside to make a post, and now here it is!

He's looking great and he seems to be in a very good place. It's a great profile worth reading.

I'm hoping that as part of his evolution, Hill's also followed the lead of Superbad writer Seth Rogen and cut ties with James Franco.

I love how he’s taken on new things. One of my favorite Jonah Hill appearances is his Tim and Eric “Back to Squall” bits (Part 1 and Part 2)

I hadn't thought much about him one way or the other until I saw the Graham Norton episode when he flirted with Julie Andrews. He glows with warmth and charm.

Love Jonah Hill. He did some terrible movies after SuperBad but after Maniac and Mid90s I'll pretty much watch anything he does now.

Maniac was wonderful.

He was also far better than he needed to be in Don't worry, he won't get far on foot. If there's an afterlife, John Callahan must be laughing uproariously at the idea of being played by Joaquin Phoenix.

He seems contented, and that makes me happy.

I just saw him pop up in an old episode of Human Giant. Rob Huebel murdered him on the moon.

Seriously though, it's nice that he's getting to do what he wants and is happy. Nobody wants to be remembered as the guy who can't stop himself from drawing dicks, all the time.

yeah, maniac. damn.

gotta say, the directorial vision for that elevated absurdist surrealism is one of a kind. truly novel audience experience.

MONEYBALL. Best US major studio film of the aughts. Hill played against type and I think it's his performance against the flashier turn by Brad Pitt that anchors the film.
