Black Film Archive celebrates the rich, abundant history of Black cinema. We are an evolving archive dedicated to making historically and culturally significant films made from 1915 to 1979 about Black people accessible through a streaming guide with cultural context.

This is a great project, but to be clear, it’s not a physical archive of films. More like a registry or database with links to streaming services, YouTube, etc.. It’s great for education, but not a source for licensing footage or use in films, documentaries etc. (as it links to rights-holders, Fair Use isn’t an option.)

This is a great resource, and also great is the irreplaceable Black Film Center/Archive at Indiana University.

There was a Maya in New Orleans working on something similar, although this was before streaming...

Thank you! Criterion is good, but this is better.
