The Kraken Busters

The Kraken Busters [via mefi projects] is a deep dive (apologies for the pun) into the US response to the sea monster threat post WW2.

The host has really done their research, drawing from first person accounts right from before the first sighting of El Pulpo and going into detail about how the post WW2 navy handled it all.

Is this related to that Twitter thread about a giant octopus (previously)? Because I really enjoyed that. Downloading.

Ah, yes, I recognise some names now. Excellent.

Heyo! Creator of the podcast here, and thrilled to see it on the front page. Really, really stoked to see people experiencing and enjoying the show (I just popped over here after finishing a stretch of work on Ep 4, which should go up Sunday night)

Don't want to threadsit (and won't), but:

So yeah, there's a curvy-but-direct line from that Twitter thread to here; I realized pretty quickly that the Twitter thread could convert pretty easily, with some edits, into a book outline. And then writing and revising it turned into my COVID lockdown project. A couple of months into the gruelling, disheartening process of trying to find representation for the resulting book (which, FWIW, is *substantially* fleshed out and modified from the original twitter thread), I realized that instead of spinning my wheels there, it might be more fun to do the whole thing as a "history" podcast. So: here we are.

Again: thrilled that people are enjoying it.

I'll definitely keep this in mind for the looming Kraken threat to the nearby superior marine animals.

Just finished episode 3 and am enjoying this so much! The storytelling is compelling, but from an audio standpoint, I love the DIY quality. Only a little sad it comes recommended early in the run because I can't just binge the whole thing!
