Behind Lil Nas X's Royal Met Gala Looks [6m27s YouTube video from Vogue] I thought it was fun to watch him have fun with very expensive clothing. Also, great looks!

I'm going to admit not bothering to look up what the Met Gala is, but this was indeed fun and kind of fascinating.

Edit: ok fine I looked it up and it makes a little more sense now! Super-fashion.

I’ve been aware of the Met Gala for years and always thought it was a standard-issue fundraiser thing that happened to have a reputation for attracting interesting celebrities. Cora Harrington’s post on Twitter connected the dots to the Costume Institute for me:
A small thing to note in terms of The Met Gala and The Costume Institute. The Costume Institute itself is not just a party or exhibits. It’s the acquisition, curation, and preservation of over 30,000 items across 7 centuries.

Clothing tells us so much about real people and their lives and the times they were a part of, but clothing is also incredibly fragile. There are pieces that will disintegrate if you breathe on them too hard. It’s not like bronze or stone.

I feel like when people hear about The Met Gala, their thoughts begin and end at “Oh, it’s a party for the rich.” And it absolutely is. But there’s also more going on there. Because, again, unlike every other department in The Met, the Costume Institute has to fund itself.

I…have very little patience for people who believe it’s important to preserve painting or sculpture, but that preservation of clothing is a waste of time and money.

Okay, a couple days ago I saw a few memes about the Met Gala and how all the women wore all these fantabulous dresses "but all the guys just wore tuxes and that's so boring".

....How the hell did they miss THIS?

It wasn't "all they guys wore tuxes," it was "all of the guys who wore tuxes to this are lame, because look at Lil Nas X for fuck's sake"

Awww, he's so cute, and having so much fun -this is how it should be done!

I see his tweets (secondhand, on reddit) and he seems like a relatively sane and reasonable person who isn't shy about who he is. Watching this video where he's looking in the mirror and being so happy with what he sees makes me love this dude.

I saw a photo on Twitter of his outfits labeled “tank - dps - heal” which I thought was pretty on point

That went through the back of my mind while watching this. How do you get something this large and fragile from Milan to New York within a week? Private jet?

JoeZydeco, you got me curious, so I looked around and found the term “white glove logistics.” No need for a brand to book a whole jet just for themselves, when there’s probably a jet already going to the same place with other couture and maybe some priceless art or cases of delicate wine.

I just want to make sure that this pic of Elton John and Lil Nas X is included. Yes, it's a promo for a cruddy company, but I could stare at this all day.

I have never seen an interview with Lil Nas X before, just read the Tweets and seen his videos. Holy cow, that man has that intense charisma that just reaches through the screen and grabs you. And also, those were some fantastic outfits.

He's like, Gen X Beyonce. Or Elvis.

At 22, he's decidedly Gen Z.

Typo! Bah. That's what I meant.

(Stop mentioning Gen X! We're mostly invisible, and we prefer to stay that way!)

It's another sneakygenius Lil Nas X easteregg. His album dropped today. His album that includes this, which he has been snippeting relentlessly for what seems like about fifty years and it's finally finally here and I can't stop watching it and I'm seriously about to black out.

That video is astonishing, and that song is really great. Now I wish I'd waited a bit and posted that video!

I love Lil Nas X, but I'm incredulous that there are people who don't know what the Met Gala is, or the Costume Institute, or do not go through every single picture of every outfit worn to the Met Gala that is published on the internet every year and analyze how closely they adhered to the theme...

Lil Nas X's 'Montero' Is Triumphant [Pop Culture Happy Hour, 26m listen. More NPR for your mom.]

This is a really insightful look at the album, which I've been listening to since it was released. It's not all "my style" of music, but the whole album is definitely my style.
