Spencer Ackerman

Spencer Ackerman who reported on the Chicago Police Black Site in Holman Square in 2015 (Previously) has a new book out: Reign of Terror: How the 9/11 Era Destabilized America and Produced Trump. He went on Seth Myers to talk about Obama era missteps and also to talk about writing with Evan Narcisse a new Suicide Squad comic focusing on Amanda Waller.
I have not read the book, but this is not the first discussion I have seen of it.
I have good memories of Ackerman's work from his blogging days, but to the extent that he really believes 9/11 was some kind of turning point on the way to Trump, I think he's being ahistorical. Ackerman always has lived in a world where Ronald Reagan is admired as a President, instead of being despised as a hateful, senile old fool. The real turning point was the year Ackerman was born, or maybe when he was seven years old, and the Inquest of the Nation decided to whitewash the criminality of Iran-Contra rather than face the necessity of admitting that the second Republican President in succession was a sleazy crook.

I assure you that Spencer Ackerman, longtime national security and intelligence reporter, who was notably the most left-wing reporter at the New Republic for years, does not live in a world where Ronald Reagan is admired. I mean, c'mon.

I'd love to see what he does with Waller and the Squad.
