I never understood people who said they didn’t like musicals because they were “unrealistic.” I was an adult before I realized that most families didn’t sing and dance around the house as much as mine did. And apparently most mothers don’t sing “Poor Jud is Dead” as a lullaby?

Not a big fan of musicals myself but I clicked and ... two. hours. later ... well this was quite enjoyable, had laugh-out-loud moments, very cringy moments (but in a good way), and a lot of things that really spoke to me as someone who "doesn't like musicals." So this was was aimed exactly at me and didn't miss.

Team Starkid is the best rabbithole. I got into them after seeing a gif (!) from Firebringer. Twisted is super good, too.

Do you want a combination of music and drama that's not as good as either one standing alone? Then do we have the show for you!

Ugh OK FINE I'll watch this, since I'm either the target audience or just, you know, the target.

Tried watching it.

Now I hate musicals even more.

Let me guess, "I don't even want to do the work today?" :D

I'm not a big fan of musicals generally but I do like Starkid. We took a road trip to see them live in Chicago a couple of times, including for Firebringer.

My other favorites are Starship and The Trail To Oregon.

Why are you clapping?!

Thought it was odd to see them out in the audience, and then I realized it was the Beforetimes.

"I know this is gonna sound crazy. And not very scary. But it is scary, if you think about the implications. PROMISE ME YOU'LL THINK ABOUT THE IMPLICATIONS!"

I can totally see this as a Hollywood movie à la Little Shop of Horrors. They’d probably have to tone down the language in some scenes (How many fucks do you have to cut to avoid an R rating?) Involuntarily working on the dream cast in my head. Frank Oz is still available to direct.

At the very least it needs to go Off-Broadway.

Two things I like about it specifically: Emma's incredibly bored performance of the tip song in the cafe, and the use of underscoring to suggest someone might break into song during dialogue which builds tension related to the plot.

Very clever show all around.

It's a solid gag that never gets old.

And I love how you know right from the beginning what’s going to happen to Paul, but it’s still a shocking moment when it happens.

Tangentially related to musicals (figure it out), it's a fact that skipping is a highly efficient and enjoyable means of locomotion, especially downhill. Yet adults just can't bring themselves to do it. This seems a pity and needs to be addressed.

This is so brilliant.

God, I wish I had a group of friends who would do stuff like this, put together our own awesome shows.

Also, I like how The Professor is the one who really THOUGHT ABOUT THE IMPLICATIONS... only he went in a different direction. The direction of someone who loves musical theater.
