Hook yourself a fish from the comfort of your home

Voyageurs National Park has released its first official crochet pattern: a walleye.

Walleye not your style? Maybe you'd prefer a betta or an angelfish (in Polish, but scroll down for English).

Got damn I love the National Park Service: sweet hats, whimsical outreach, and low, low admission prices.

I love it! I wonder what will be next. I would love to see a pattern for a loon, a wolf...even a mosquito.

What a great size joke. Also, finally my gauge doesn't matter.

Could someone knit the front half of this, then add a cuff, for a fish-on-the-head winter hat?

Hypothetically?

Shared with my wife who has been known to create birthday gifts on the way to the party.

There will be a house full of fish by next week.

This is great! Curious to know how something like this comes about--like, was some ranger really into crocheting, and how did they get it into an official project?

At the bottom of the page: Perch-ance you find a mistake in the pattern, please let us know. This is our first oh-fish-al pattern, so please be kind!

@wenestvedt, That shouldn't be too hard. You're essentially just making half of the pattern. All you have to do is decide where in the pattern to stop and then make sure you crochet it in a bigger gauge such that the diameter of the fish fits your head (may have to add stitches if the sizes are too far apart). Personally, I'd crochet it to the desired midpoint then switch to a knit ribbed edge.

(Or have I misunderstood the question...)

Noooooo, Sockininthefreeworld, not exactly misunderstood, more like hoping someone else would offer to do it for me. Like I was....

Fishing for a free hat.

(Specifically, I might ask my sister to do it for me.)

I should get past the mental block I have about following patterns. They just don't make sense to me. Plus there's the difference in stitch names on each side of the Atlantic.
