Shout Your Abortion: the Good News

Following 2015 efforts to defund Planned Parenthood, Amelia Bonow’s unapologetic abortion disclosure prompted an outpouring of abortion stories on social media via the hashtag #ShoutYourAbortion. There's a book. But there's also an action starting today to publicize the availability of abortion pills, medical help, and legal help. There are flyers, posters, etc. in the downloadable toolkit. Thank you for this. I feel absolutely sick to my stomach about the potential end of Roe v. Wade. It's all I can think about. We deserve to control our own bodies.

I think a lot of us are too sick at heart to discuss this right now.

It's a very depressing thought that we can never take our civil rights for granted.

Thank you for posting this action; all I have is despair right now but since it is evidently time to think in a post-Roe world, I’d like to do my part to help maintain access. I like the poster kit re: exposing fake clinics; there is one I pass on my bike to work.

I am saddened that my generation will have to fight again for rights my mother’s generation won. I’d be interested in what’s being done at the state level, because I despair that anything national could happen soon.

Yeah, no need for discussion, just wanted to spread the info. Abortion should never be pushed underground, but if it is, there is a whole network of providers who are prepared to help. It's beyond awful that it's come to this. But it's a global issue and, for instance, Women on Waves has been out there helping for decades. Beat down the patriarchy every day y'all.

Yeah, as I expected, my state is one of those with a law that will go into effect as soon as Roe ends ( cf this Wikipedia article ). Congrats to Illinois for repealing theirs a few years ago. Time to see if AZ has any movement to do the same…

In 2007 there used to be a website called I'M NOT SORRY. It went away for several years, with the stories being archived elsewhere (on a blogspot site IIRC) but I just checked and it's back online! Thousands of stories in there, including mine as a 24 yr old, rejoicing when they finally sucked that blasted embryo out of my uterus after two painful failed tries at abortion via pills.

Same here in Utah, and no surprise. The Intermountain West hates women every bit as much as the Deep South, always has.
