I guess the reason I have never understood the memes about this actor is that he’s been in about sixty movies and I’ve seen about seven of them. 2/10 on the quiz, both guesses.

Same same. I had seen maybe a third of the movies offered up as candidates and many of the options I had never even heard of. Even with the ones I had seen... well, I saw The Minus Man once at a matinee in 1999. It’s not like I have the inflections of his dialogue committed to memory.

I think the real takeaway is that Owen Wilson has a powerfully nuanced, subtle "wow". Truly, an acting masterclass.

I saw Bottle Rocket, his debut, some 25 years ago. I cannot recall if he says "Wow" anywhere in there, but obviously it's Owen Wilson, so . y'know, probably. I was there at the beginning. I was there for the first "Wow," Gandalf.

Incidentally, when I looked up his early filmography, I notice he is an associate producer on 1997's As Good As It Gets. At this point, he had done Bottle Rocket, a single scene in The Cable Guy, and a sixth-billed part in Anaconda. I am curious as to how he wound up in the credits of a James L. Brooks romantic comedy

Went to college with Wes Anderson, wrote 'Bottle Rocket' together, James Brooks was the one persuaded Columbia Pictures to give them $5 million.
