Old-school rave to make you happy

DJ Chrissy (mentioned before here on the blue) has a new album out, and it's a glorious throwback to old-school rave. Resident Advisor has nice things to say. Available to listen on most (all?) streaming platforms.

Oh, thanks! I didn't even listen first, I know Chrissy... I bought the vinyl. (came with a download, so yay).

Looking forward to it! Thanks so much!

Fun! Maybe the most interesting thing about that review is the link to Chrissy’s 2011 Year in Mixtapes blog, which appears to run through whole heap of dance music genres that will all sound the same to me but also be extremely danceable.

Going To Maine, there are some recommendations in the "mentioned before here" link.

You didn't mention that this project is a series of tracks each dedicated to a different kind of rave space, and so tuned to what you could maybe get away with there, or otherwise in groove with that idea.

This is a lot of fun. Again, thanks!

Oh, and Cuddle Puddle (Step Into My World) is a total Orbital pastiche.

I'll have to listen again with an ear for more such similar tributes and take-offs. Still on my first time through. :)

Also, I suspect there is a stack of 11 12" remixes out there each about 11m long... I'd love to get my hands on THAT set of these tunes. I am the target audience for this.

Chrissy is great. I def recommend going to one of his parties if he ever spins in your area.

I would totally go see them spin, but I don't think that would be here locally...

Something scheduled in SF on a Sat early next year, but I'm not sure I'm cool enough to fly in for a party like that.

Listening again, and I'm not super well-versed on the whole dance music scene so I'll be wrong about my occasional guesses... but I feel like Lost In A Dream would be an Oakenfold pastiche?

Although he's mostly a remixer? and not a composer? So if is a composer pastiche that this should be, I'm lost.

I feel like the way things evolve on The Map Point should remind someone of something. I feel like it's familiar, but I can't place the source of inspiration.

Gaaa. I can't go through this track by track. So much of it feels inspired by others as a tribute, as exemplars of their genre related to the rave scene. Like, there's nothing NEW on this album, but it all feels fresh and new because it's assembled so true to form.

I love this. Again, thank you.
