Well, policing is an easy job just as teaching is an easy job. Because of the bureacracy in both professions, good performance is not encouraged and poor performance is not discouraged. This means that some will blow off their duties while others will not.

I live in the district and my few encounters with POs have been very positive.

Witold, what's with the balanced, informed, mature post?

That's just not we do things around here.

How did I end up at /.? And when did they change their look and feel? And why are my clothes on backwards?

I worked with MPD, at their headquarters and out at damn near every precinct building. With the exception of a few examples from the chief-level, the work attitudes of the sworn officers are light years ahead of the department's civilians. Take that however you want.

Living a few blocks from that Mt. Pleasant 7-11, I can attest that it often seems, shall we say, over-policed. Very safe place.

Same with the So. Capitol 7-11. It is just crawling with POs day and night.
