Morgan Donner tried 500 years of haircuts. More from Morgan Donner here.

Separately, from Allure, 100 Years of Black hair.

This video appears in my recommendations a lot (but I was already subscribed to Morgan, so) and every time I see it mentioned I keep being reminded of how absolutely awesome the *planning* and execution of this video is.

Seriously, give it a watch until the end. It's amazing.

I miss the "100 Years of Beauty" series from The Cut, too. I wish they hadn't stopped making videos.

I was wondering how she'd handle changing hair lengths and she did it the right way and also the only way and the crazy way.

Now I just wish I had more hair.

I'm bookmarking this one to watch later on a bigger screen, but it's so good to see Morgan Donner mentioned here. The amount of dedication and research from the CosTube community is absolutely staggering. It's a rabbit hole once you get started, but it's a great one. Yay!

The only hairstyle I was surprised to see her skip was the Dorothy Hamill wedge (maybe because I had one at the time), but I can see how it would have messed with the rest of the timeline looks.

Such a good video. (Also I find these days I'm a wee bit jealous of people with hair.)

Was 100 Years of Wedding Gowns the one that kicked off this whole thing? That one was pretty interesting.

I can guess one reason the bilateral front part, and front area of hair, separate from the back braid and it has to do with cold, drafty houses, and being able to easily wash the front part in a basin while leaving the heavy braid styled and still up. They had night bonnets for sleeping.

I have absolutely no interest in hair. I just buzz all mine off these days so as to avoid plague-ridden barber shops. But I really enjoyed this video; the presentation was brilliant without being in-your-face clever, the reference images were helpful in contextualizing the styles, and the narration was witty and fun.

And then in the end she validated my whole buzzing-all-my-hair-off approach, and my day was made.

Morgan Donner's secret goth pants are a triumph of home sewist creativity and skill.

I subscribed to her channel because of all the background research that went into her Little Mermaid cosplay look.

When she started cutting parts of her hair for certain styles, I thought, well, OK, her hair is long enough that she can probably blend that in. Like, yeah, that's a commitment but I didn't think too much of it.

But wow, she totally went all the way with it. That whole video was really fun. (I've watched other videos with her, too.)

I've only ever had waist-length hair but I remember cutting it to above my shoulders and how freeing that was. Due to the pandemic, I've been growing out a pixie cut (I did get one trim) and my hair is past my collarbones now, which is longer than it's been in YEARS. I like it but I also am remembering what an annoyance longer hair is.

Wow, that was so cool! I had not expected her to cut off over a decade's worth of hair! That is a serious commitment.

Just a few weeks ago I cut off all my covid hair and I'm back to a short pixie, and it's great. So much easier to deal with...
