Come and sing and dance to sausage rolls with me

Mark Hoyle and Roxanne Hoyle are the duo behind the YouTube channel LadBaby (YT) (previously). Their song Sausage Rolls for Everyone, a collaboration with lesser-known artists Ed Sheeran and Elton John, is the 2021 UK Christmas Number 1 song. This is their fourth song at the top spot, tying LadBaby with another UK-based band, The Beatles, for the most Christmas Day #1 songs.

Sausage Rolls for Everyone is a reworking of the new John/Sheeran song Merry Christmas (YT) which ended up in the #2 spot.

LadBaby's previous 3 works are --
2020: Don't Stop Me Eatin' (YT)
2019: I Love Sausage Rolls (YT)
2018: We Built This City ... on Sausage Rolls (YT) (previously),

Money raised from the LadBaby songs go to the Trussell Trust, an organization that supports a nationwide network of food banks and also works to address the structural issues that cause people to need food bank assistance in the first place.

Ladbaby did not have much time for a profane, rival number 1 effort, whose charitable contribution was less directly publicised.

And if anyone else is boggling that an act has had four number ones and you've missed it entirely, Wired has you covered with a really interesting article.

How the hell did I get to the last day of 2021 without hearing any of this?

Chriatmas!! number ones, I should have said. Really, the wired article put the pieces together excellently, the summary more or less being - from an internet user elsewhere - that this will be the first year people go home and have an Internet culture phenomenon explained to them by their parents, instead of vice versa.

New Years Resolution for 2022: Find out where to buy sausage rolls in Southern California or find a good recipe to make my own because I was distracted by how good those looked.

I made not-at-all, yet somehow, sausage rolls with smoked polish sausage and ready made biscuit dough. It was delicious and I regret it.
This was a fun music experience and I want the glasses as well.

Sausage rolls are easy and delicious to make. And check the label but most US puff pastry is vegan (Pepperidge Farms is for sure), which makes making vegan sausage rolls super easy too.

I can't find it now, but my original go-to recipe had you brush the sausage with a bit of mustard before rolling it up, which I do think gives it a nice flavor.

I was subscribed to their Youtube after they first appeared on the Blue. However, I unsubscribed and mostly forgot about them when they announced they were going to start doing content exclusively on Facebook, which I refuse to use.

Nice to know they're still plugging away. Roxanne is hilarious.

Ladbaby and this whole Xmas number 1 bullshit can eat my whole ass. They are the gibbering "content" ghouls that we are perfectly unsuited to suffer in this late Johnsonian age, and the sooner they crawl back up into their Facebook hole the better.

You're just jealous that nobody wants to put your Ten Cold Hot Dogs inside some delicious puff pastry.

That sounded dirtier than I intended it to.

I was wondering how the whole UK Christmas Number 1 song thing came to be. Here are a couple of articles that did a good job of explaining the phenomena:

Ok I loved everything about this thank you I needed it.

It was both absolutely rubbish and I am so very glad that it exists, which is the case with many things from across the pond. The oldest holiday bit - dumb levity for a serious cause. And all for the weird culture of the English Xmas holiday - really it feels Love Actually come to life, which is also absolutely terrible. That was the quintessential modern holiday movie pre Covid.

I might just have the update my holiday playlist.
