People is now reporting it as well. I'll take that as confirmation.

But: dammit, what a loss. Loved her and became aware of her through 70s game shows and, of course, The Golden Girls – but what an amazing depth of talent and skill she brought to everything. To still have impeccable comedic timing and wit right until her last day? We should all be so lucky.

Awwww. I really enjoyed, and would recommend, the documentary about her life. She talked a lot about Allen Ludden and I always remember this bit that I read in Wikipedia afterwards. "When asked by James Lipton on Inside The Actor's Studio that should Heaven exist, what would she like God to say to her when she walked through the Pearly gates, White replied: 'Hello Betty. Here's Allen.'"

I am grateful we had her in our lives for so long.

Late last night, I saw her name in some news headline, and my first reaction was to fear the worst. Instead, it was some piece about her being nearly 100 and a little fun with Ryan Reynolds.

“Whew,” I thought “Bullet dodged!”

Of course less than 12 hours later, this. What a tiny rollercoaster.

I am sad she is gone, but 99 is old. 99 is really old for someone that has been so active and full of life until the end. So sharp; such a joy, such a smart ass. If I live to be half as healthy, half as together to 99, I will be blessed. She is only gone too soon because there would never be enough time on earth for her light, be it 99 years, or 999 years.

Thank you, Betty.

I grew up on The Golden Girls. I feel like that show taught me a lot—about love, loss, friendship, comedy, and more. I watched the show with my mom and my sister, and I think the show made me a better person. Or not. That sounds a bit overwrought. In any case, Betty White means a whole lot to me. I’ll miss her.

Just the other day I asked a co-worker, “Which Golden Girl are you?,” and she replied, “Dorothy,” and I said, “Me too.” And then we kinda backed away from each other warily. (My co-worker brings a Golden Girls backpack to work. I don’t just ask anyone like some weirdo.)

I used to search the web for old-time radio shows. I once found one that had a very young Betty White. It was kind of a sit-com filled with very naughty (sexual) double entendre jokes.

When she was in her 80s on Saturday Night Live doing all the double entendre skits (such as Alec Baldwin's 'famous Schweddy Balls'), everyone thought it was so cute that this sweet old lady was going along with this type of humor. And I was thinking "She was doing that type of humor before any of you were even born".

What an astonishing woman she was! Back when they really didn't understand how to use the new medium of television, one of her first TV gigs was Hollywood on Television, a kind of ur-talk show. They hadn't even figured out they should have guests. It was literally just Betty White chatting at the camera. FOR FIVE AND A HALF HOURS, SIX DAYS A WEEK!

After that, what challenges could performing bring her? She could do anything.

Amazing woman. I used to joke that after Covid and climate change, it would fall to Betty White and Keith Richards to repopulate the blasted Earth. Now I guess it's just extinction for us. Damn.

The funny part is they are showing an interview with her, but the caption over it says "Betty White - dead at 99." So they appear to be interviewing her about her death. She seems pretty satisfied. It makes me laugh every time the loop starts over. Of course Betty would good-heartedly agree to be interviewed about her own recent death.

Too young for the Mary Tyler Moore show so always think of Betty White in her Golden Girls role and now in Hot in Cleveland (which is way better than it has any right to be). But it was when she was a guest actor on Community that I learned she was older than sliced bread (and will be for several years still). For some reason it really put in perspective just how long she'd been an entertainer. Just an amazing talent.
