The Outs

Both seasons of the critically-acclaimed queer web series The Outs are now free to watch.

Season 1 was produced in 2012 through a crowdfunding campaign, and was picked up by Vimeo in 2017 for Season 2. Vimeo has since ended its originals program, and the paywalled episodes are now free to watch.

In 2021, showrunner/writer/director Adam Goldman created Hot White Heist, a comedy podcast series for Audible starring an all-queer cast including (The Outs alumni) Alan Cumming and Bowen Yang, Cynthia Nixon, Jane Lynch, Peppermint, Shannon Woodward, MJ Rodriguez, Margaret Cho, Stephanie Beatriz, and more.

My partner and I watched this (and paid the money!) when it came out. I remember liking it but don't remember enough to say: Does it hold up on a rewatch?

If Alan Cumming is in it, I’ll give a try!

Whoa, blast from the past. I too bought and watched this when it first came out and it does hold up, but boy it simultaneously makes me nostalgic for being a late-20s/early-30s gay dude in Obama-era Brooklyn and glad that I am no longer that

Update: I watched, and I'm glad I did. I'm not usually into shows that focus on relationship drama, but this had a light touch and good emotional intelligence. I have no idea whether anyone ever lived like this, with the unfailingly cute apartments and sharp clothes and nonsense jobs and mean-spirited banter and total lack of connection to anyone outside their own demographic (with the notable exception of Alan Cumming). It felt a bit like watching a foreign film to me, a boring midwestern early-thirty-something. Thanks for sharing! Now I want the lesbian version.
