TinTin Akei Kongo is an unauthorized copy of Tintin au Congo translated into Lingala. Les Scht...mpfs Noirs is a provocatively re-colored copy of the first Smurfs book. Katz is a copy of Maus, but with all the mice drawn as cats. Ubuweb presents and briefly discusses them.

What's with the racist slur in the middle of this discussion/presentation of these books? (Leaving aside the choice to apparently defend the practice of proudly reprinting racist material and ripping off marginalised creators.)

Sorry, flight or fight. I think I missed it. (Unless I did it? I don't actually speak any of the relevant languages.) Please flag. I thought it was an interesting response to racist literature. (Except the Maus thing, which I don't really understand.) It's very possible I'm wrong and I'm happy to learn that.

The third paragraph of the Tintin discussion, the sentence beginning "This conception of Congolese people..".

I've read it over a few times and can't figure out why the slur has been used unless it's a significant translation error of some kind?

Ah. Damnit. Sorry. Flagging this myself.

No worries! It's an interesting topic, maybe there's another discussion somewhere else sans random slurs.
