Madonna's new song leaked to the net, and the Warner Bros. machine is none too pleased.

I love this part:

"However, the unauthorized version [of rapper Eminem's new album] didn't prevent that album from selling more than 1.7 million copies in the first week of its release, jumping to the top of U.S. pop charts."

I don't listen to radio anymore. I'm sure I'm in the minority, but the last dozen or so albums I bought were because of what I heard from those artists on the 'Net. And I have bought more CDs in the past six months than I had in the last three years prior.

If Warner and all the artists they support don't evolve with the times, they'll become dinosaurs. In fact some would argue that Madonna and Metallica are extinct already. They just don't have the decency to lie down.

Eminem has a lot of nerve threatening the people who use Napster after he sells 1.7 million copies in the first week. What is this guys problem? Like he wouldn't be doing the same dam thing if he wasn't a billion dollar rapper. He's talking about beating people up? what is he, like 5'4"? 90 lbs? ooooohh, i'm scared. he pictures "scrawny little dickheads" as the people who download his music... didn't he just describe himself?

I think the record companies are more concerned about losing control than losing revenue. Can you imagine the chaos if music listeners start deciding what they like for themselves?

That said, anybody have any more info on the song itself? How exactly it got leaked, etc? None of the old-media (which I have recently redefined to mean "not MeFi") seem to know anything.

oh my -- please do not consider MeFi a reliable news source...

well, do whatever you want. but i wouldn't.

i just downloaded the track from napster and i must say that for a work in progress its not bad.
honestly though i don't see how this hurts madonna. all this it does is serve as publicity for her next album.

Palegirl, that was mostly a joke. Didn't mean to make you worry. :) As for publicity, how could this be anything but free publicity? I've only been able to find it in a degraded 128*44. Anybody who actually likes the song after hearing it is going to be forced to buy the album anyway. Same as a video on MTV.
