If you wanna get closer to Him, get on your knees and start paying ...

"Jesus, He Knows Me" (live) is a 1991 song and music video by Genesis off their 1991 album We Can't Dance. In the music video, Collins is impersonating Ernest Angley, Angley was flattered by the parody and didn't realize he was being made fun of. The song was actually going to be used in "Bart Sells His Soul" (the bit where Bart substitutes the organist's music), but they could not get the rights. And there'll be no doubt in your mind / You'll believe everything I'm saying / If you wanna get closer to Him / Get on your knees and start paying ... also, a pretty awesome metal cover. (inspired by this awesome post)

Phil Collins' Genesis is better than Peter Gabriel's Genesis. There. I said it. I regret nothing!

Hard to imagine that episode without the fantastic I-Ron Butterfly bit.

The band Suicidal Tendencies had a sweet little diddy called "Send Me Your Money". (SLYT) And anytime I say the word "lights" my brain immeadiately begins singing the rest of the song.

Peter Gabriel's Genesis will always be my favorite. But admittedly, those early albums were not recorded, mixed and produced well. They sound rather muddy. I also like Collins' Genesis up to and including the album "Duke," but after that? Nah.

I've always liked this one. Resurrection by Manfred Mann.

The band Suicidal Tendencies

Thrash metal bands loved songs about televangelists--'Leper Messiah,' 'Make Me Laugh,' 'Read Between the Lies'...

I like all of Genesis for different reasons, and try not to compare one iteration to another. Gabriel Genesis ("Lamb Lies Down on Broadway", "Selling England By the Pound") is amazing for what they are. Early Collins Genesis (particularly "Duke" and "Abacab") take a lot of the pre-existing prog elements and narrow them into digestible radio-friendly songs ("Turn It On Again" is still one of my favorites). And later Collins Genesis ("Invisible Touch," "We Can't Dance") was an unbeatable 80s pop trio with a string of unforgettable hits. I can't find fault with any of them.

And, for that matter, Phil Collins' solo stuff gets a bad rap.

Not just thrash bands, hardcore bands like Mucky Pup like bashing televangelists too.
