Mel Blanc did voices for them, and the comments on the video suggest that it was Tex Avery's last work in animation before he retired.

Even as a person who grew up with American TV, I've always been a bit shocked at the open bloodthirstiness of insecticide commercials.

Although I always had a soft spot for the Citibank commercial where Vincent Price buys a bug zapper.

It's a feature, not a bug.

They're fairly Off!. Repellent, even.

the upside, I suppose, is it may just be one of those things that unite us. Nobody wants fucking bugs in the wrong place ...

Even Buddhists.

I am currently dealing with an infestation of ants. I spray Raid and the ants laugh at me.
I guess ants aren't so bad. At least it's not roaches. I'd have a stroke if it was roaches.

When you have an infestation of roaches in your living space, murdering insects becomes a very strong emotional response.

I am privileged enough to be a home owner and a gardener. I do not use any insecticide, herbicide (that shit is terrible) or even fungicide outdoors. Indoors I've used neem oil (which is a vegetable oil) and insecticidal soap (which is organic soap—no poison... the soap drowns the bugs) for control of scale insects and mealybugs, but that was a long time ago.

Years ago, we had a bad roach problem when living in Miami Beach. We rented and basically had to do massive, uncompensated cleaning on our own dime (because the unit was so awesome otherwise), and cockroaches, combined with subtropical warmth and humidity are a goddamned nightmare. You bet your ass I was murderous towards those bugs. And having, um, less than tidy adjoining neighbors meant having to keep up with the poison. It's nasty business, messing with poison. But when it's where YOU sleep and eat and live? Bloodthirsty murderousness springs forth from deep inside one's psyche.

two side notes:

(1) The slogan "Raid kills bugs dead" was written by the great beat-era poet Lew Welch, during his brief unhappy stint as an ad-writer in Chicago. He wrote some brilliant poems, but none ever reached one-thousandth the audience of his insecticide slogan,

(2) In the 21st century Johnson & Johnson may be better known for "talc kills people dead", as they have had to settle lawsuits with cancer patients over asbestos in their talcum powder, and have removed it from the market.

6 seasons of 'Billy the Exterminator.'

All I've seen of this show is a scene where the Billy guy went to remove bees or wasps and instead of actual beekeeper clothing he puts on Hot Topic goth stuff and gets stung all to fuck. How could a show like that not be a money printing machine for A&E?

Just to clarify: I 100% understand the bloodthirstiness of the audience dealing with pests. Been there. The only thing that surprises me (albeit only mildly) is the level of bloodthirstiness allowed to be shown in ads that ran in all time slots.
